A science fiction thriller with blaxploitation humor
Netflix and producer Jamie Foxx present this modern blaxploitation film that mixes conspiracy science fiction with the humor and personality of films starring African Americans. Everything revolves around Fontaine and his companions Slick and Yo-yo who discover that nothing in the neighborhood is what it seems. The film is enjoyable to watch for all the humorous moments that the characters offer. It's well-paced and plays well with this whole thing about what meaning Fontaine is trying to give to his life after discovering who he really is. Likewise, the film leaves a couple of loose ends that would be convenient to tie up and clarify in a sequel. They Cloned Tyrone is a good movie to pass the time and an interesting option for blaxploitation lovers. My final rating for this movie is an 8/10.

    Interesting premise, mixed execution
They cloned tyrone feels like a lesser clone of a Jordan Peele film. This film starts with an interesting premise and charachters. But the story itself is not enough to meet either in terms of quality. Taking any potential and fixing it squarely in mediocrity. Before long the mystery peters out and seeing are gang incompetently stumble onto the next piece of evidence gets dry. Eventually when there is the final revelation it leads to more questions and gaping plot holes than anything else. For the movie to tie together it needed to flesh out the community and the relationships but it could not do so. Add to that no memorable sequences you have got a pretty cut and dry film for the most part. Unfortunately this film itself feels much like a clone trying to deny its place much like our characters.

    Not my cup of tea
Well, I guess I'm not in the target group, because I neither got the film nor found it funny at all.

The pacing was... weird... there was some action and suddenly the characters just sat around and talked nonsense... why? Why were they talking like they weren't surprised or excited about the events unfolding, but talking like they're chilling at home with friends?

Anyways... I fell asleep at some point, but my husband watched it till the end and told me that it didn't get any better, but even weirder.

I'm happy for anyone who enjoyed this movie. But this is obviously targeted at a specific group and anyone one else can't follow. Very excluding.
