Doctor Strange, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
nateoverman - 22 May 2024 evil demonic wicked abomination What was this abomination? This was the most messed up evil demonic wicked garbage I have ever seen in the theater. If you wanted to make a sequel to the first doctor strange movie that's fine but why the heck did you get sam raimi to direct it and make it a horror movie. Now saying this as someone who despises horror movies I clearly wasn't the target audience for this project but that being said you should have gotten the guy who did the first one or at least marketed it specifically to horror fans also MPA why heck didn't you give this an R rating the pg-13 rating was completely misleading. Also the actress of America Chavez did a terrible job acting wise should of cast a better actress. This was of the worst movies I have ever seen I will never watch this abomination ever again.
gatogroton - 3 April 2024 Not totally lame. I like the Benedict Cumberbatch style of acting which by itself appears to be unable to carry a story alone. At least the producers seem to think it with a cumbersome subplot that wasn't strong enough to lead but so weak it caused a drain from the marquee.
On the plus side being a fan of Ray Harryhausen as a child I have enjoyed the advances since then to the amazing CGI we have today. This movie has excellent visuals, and it's better the second time around finding details I missed that answered questions.
It's easy to just lay back and enjoy a visual ride worthy of Ken Kesey through universes I've been reading about since the 50s.
It's not a classic but I think it will age well.
ScorpioDog - 29 December 2023 Complicated Fun! This film definitely has flaws, but the horror-esque elements really gave this film a unique edge! Also, having Sam Raimi direct is a great choice in my opinion.
Elizabeth Olsen gave a fantastic performance, and she really takes her character in a new direction. As a newcomer, Xochitl Gomez immediately established good chemistry with Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange! I loved some of the visuals and designs employed in this film, particularly some of the magic and monsters. When the film focuses on this aspect it shines.
There is a section of the film that could have been reworked or cut out. It has some unique visuals and characters, but it sort of clashed with the cat and mouse chase present within the rest of the film. I do think that this film is the start of the over-complicated nature of the MCU. Overall though, I would recommend checking it out for the creative use of magic and horror!
frank-71651 - 1 January 2023 More like Multiverse of SADNESS amirite? Whenever DSitMoM (just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it) tries to be a Sam Raimi movie, it works. There is some creative monster design at work here, particularly in the third act involving ghastly monsters and Evil Dead-style reanimation, and some of the angled and POV shots again invoke the director's most famous horror flicks. Sadly, most of the time it tries to be a blockbuster Marvel movie, and that's where the movie becomes tiresome really quick. The film opens in medias res with a kinetic action scene, but it's hard to care amidst the heavy use of dazzlingly numbing CGI. As the title suggests, the movie ventures into multiple world's, but its exploration and integration into the plot feels rushed and underutilized, especially compared to Spiderman Into the Spider-Verse. The plot also brings back a particular Marvel TV favorite in what's supposed to be a tragic villainous turn, and while knowledge of their past material isn't strictly necessary, the movie's most emotionally resonant scenes feel hollow without it. Along the way, the movie doesn't forget to shoehorn and set up other well-known Marvel IPs, but being this deep into Phase 4 (or is it Phase 5? I'm starting to lose track here) and knowing how previous attempts have fared, it's really hard to care about any of it. At least not in this universe.
SuperGeek1 - 12 December 2022 More MSheU trash. I guess we all just have to accept that Stan Lee's Marvel is dead and gone like the legend himself. If Disney had a super power it would be that anything the company touches turns into a steaming pile of wo..ke vomit inducing preachy crap. Just be thankful that we had so many amazing years of incredible marvel movies right up to Endgame. Because of my Verizon I was offered Disney for free for 6 months but I didn't activate it because I wouldn't give this evil company even one more subscription. Only white people that possess the absolute epitome of stupidity would pay a company that openly hates white people. It's shocking how ignorant most sheeple really are. People need to wake up instead of getting wo..ke.
linneasr - 27 November 2022 Meh Many strong elements, but I felt it never really pulled together into a good story.
I liked the very little we saw of the multiverse, a lot. I wish we had seen more of it, and more of our characters dealing with differences. As it was, it felt like the 'verses where the action happened were too similar to ours.
The fighting tactics of tlluminati were ridiculous, although it was awesome to meet Reed Richards and Professor X.
I could go on. So, many strong elements but it never pulled together, and for this I hold Sam Raimi responsible. I hope he doesn't direct again in the MCU.
partridge_tanya - 17 November 2022 Sam Raimi brings some 80s camp horror style to this multiverse adventure Sam Raimi brings some 80s camp horror style to this multiverse adventure and I think they just about pulled it off. The plot was incredibly fast paced and the lead stars (Wanda Maximoff & Dr Strange) took it in their stride - both super charismatic at being frenemies.
The introduction to America Chavez felt a little rushed though and it feels like the MCU web of interconnected supers is getting a little tangled, potentially down to the sheer number of releases they are now doing in such a small time.
Kudos to Danny Elfman as well on a beautiful score that really adds so much to the experience (side note to this though, I did not care for the musical battle - it was bizarre and not very cohesive with everything else we've seen from Doctor Strange nor did it gel with the rest of the film's visuals)
