    Why such a low score?
As a fan of the west end musical I came to this film with a bit of trepidation as it only secured a score in the low 6's.

I was delighted to find it was a sincere and vastly enjoyable adaptation.

Most things were spot on and praise is well deserved in acting and craft areas.

    Charming and special but forgettable
As musicals go this one is forgettable but that doesn't Mean it's bad. I enjoyed the film I found it cute and charming and has a good message even at times it's too corny and follows the typical storyline that has been done 100 times. Most songs are catchy and the acting was really good too. It's just forgettable there's no pop to the film.

    Oof!
I don't normally fast forward though movies ....but I've seen the stage show about 3 times, and have been the biggest advocate for the story/cast/ show and I was beyond excited to see the movie.

But it was aaaaaawfuuul! I had to switch it off in the end. I scanned through the songs to see how they'd been presented and was devastated at how bland, flat, even out of tune these songs that I love sounded. The pinky plonky score sounded thin, and worse than anything the lip syncing was dreadful. Most disappointing was 'he's my boy' a song I could listen to Josie Walker singing 1000 times (check it on YouTube) a song that had every person in the theatre in tears every time, hers was one of the most emotional heartbreaking performances ive ever seen. But here it fell flat as a pancake.

Same with Jamie, I'm really curious why John McRae wasn't cast, as that guy had it all.

Hammy, and kitsch and OTT fits with the essence of 'Jamie', it worked in the theatre, but it just didn't transpose to the screen. It was hammy in a bad way. Cringey. Like a bad school play.

I almost feel guilty giving such a bad review to a play I so believed in, I've been counting down the days to watch it. Recommending it to every one I know. But this was a huge disappointment .
