Billie Holiday spent much of her career being adored by fans. In the 1940s, the government targeted Holiday in a growing effort to racialize the war on drugs, ultimately aiming to stop her from singing her controversial ballad, "Strange Fruit."
svenzakk - 1 May 2023 Another race-baiting nonsense When is it gonna stop. These propagandist movies and shows and documentaries are the reason the American youth has no respect for America. Instead of focusing on the greatness of this woman they focus on how she was withheld and blah blah the regular nonsense. Please stop. We dont care. People with the same talent in third world countries don't even get to the point where they get any recognition. Instead of thanking being born in america they go back hundreds of years and start regurgitating that gatbage that has literally no consequence on anyone succeeding today. This is hilarious that everyone wants to come to america but these sellout americans have no respect for their own country.
inacan-90-894261 - 21 July 2022 Performance is a drug The performances are great and the atmosphere is good but the tonal structure and dialogue isn't up to par. This movie seems to be all over the place regarding how they want to feature Billie and that causes abrupt shifts in presentation. Language is another aspect that I wasn't keen on. The constant use of profanity and.racial slurs I don't think is really accurate for the time and seems more out of todays culture where we swear and are more crass. That language took me out of the film.
peter-340-324380 - 4 November 2021 Strange fruit I see a lot of reviewers mentioning the screenplay writing etcetera etcetera, but the single Strange Fruit scene is worth watching the movie and make (southern) America ashamed of their own history.
funndsunxoxo - 6 August 2021 Acting ok, story same old, sad ending of a famous singer Another movie on the fall of a much loved singer. I didn't know her story so I Gave it 4 stars for that. All I kept thinking about was Marilyn Monroe Freddy Mercury Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. And it was not entertaining or enjoyable.
