    Essential viewing
This is a docudrama, and one that stays fairly close (as far as I can tell) to actual events. It is a documentary about paedophilia, or rather the industry of paedophilia, and the people who are trying to free children abducted and forced into a life of sex slavery. It is not a comfortable, sit back and relax kind of film. And at many times we stared at the screen in disbelief with hands over our mouths. The film brought to us some quite disturbing insights into this world. It's horrific. People need to watch this.

Other than all that, it is a reasonably made production. No performance really stands out. If anything, the cast is a little one dimensional. It is not at the same level as Spotlight, for example, and it's heavyweight cast delivering a story about a similar topic. Sound of Freedom follows a simple linear sequence of events, there are no twists or turns.

Prepare yourself, even from the first act.
Sound of Freedom kicks you in the guts from the first act, showing you everything that anyone who is a parent never wants to see. It's a film fully aware of how heartbreaking it is and plays with that effectively until about halfway through, when the story progresses and evolves until it's reduced to a slightly more conventional plot.

Overall it's a technically well made film. The best is undoubtedly the production design and locations. Script, photography and soundtrack also stand out with a level above average. Direction, editing and makeup could have been better, but still, they all work well and keep the plot at the center point to keep the audience on the edge of their seat.

I agree with those who maintain that this film is one of the surprises of 2023. I suggest an audience that is mentally prepared and has formed criteria. Sensitive viewers, please refrain.

    Extremely layered and powerful
With the controversial nature of the movie I really thought this would have some offensive scenes or language but to my surprise, there wasn't.

The topic by itself is extremely tough but the film did it an incredible justice. The performances by the children was brilliant and the structure of the film followed a layered, nuanced, unmasking of the pedo ring, peeling off layer by layer like an onion.

Some dialogue between Tim and his wife felt rushed, but thankfully the plot was about Tim and how he operated during this. The film also opened by eyes to the world which is brutal but real. Definitely will be recommending to all my friends.
