They don't make films like this any more...
You know when you are stuck in on a cold wintry day with a few hours to kill?

You know when you're curled up on the sofa with a cuppa or a hot chocolate?

You know when you've scrolled Netflix a dozen times and spent longer scrolling than the running time of an average Scorcese film?

You know when you're recovering from a cold, or a bad week, or cancelled plans, or just need something to make you feel a bit better?

You know when you think what I need is a 40s or 50s black and white classic and you think "shall I watch Breakfast at Tiffany's for the umpteenth time"?

You know when you think "they don't make films like that any more"?

They damned well do, you know!

    Utterly Charming Old Fashioned Drama
I rarely give a 10 for films, but this film totally deserves it and I'm appalled it's only averaging 7.1 currently on IMDB.

The film is set just after the second world war and is the story of a very ordinary cleaning lady with a heart of gold. Her husband is missing after the war and she's waiting in hope that he will appear. Her well to do employer is a not very nice lady who owes her back wages but isn't in a hurry to pay her. She buys an expensive Dior dress despite pretending she is hard up.

Lesley Manville, who plays the lead, falls in love with the dress and vows to scrimp and save and buy herself that Dior dress. The story goes on to tell how she travels to Paris and charms everyone she meets. Does she achieve her dream? You'll have to watch and find out.

It's honestly a beautifully made old fashioned film with terrific performances and a delightful story.

The supporting cast are all excellent, not least Jason Isaacs as a charming Irishman (with a very credible Irish accent). 100% recommended!

    Will make you smile.
Incredibly charming, kind, and warm film.

In modern cinematography, we rarely meet films such as this one.

The story is about a kind and honest woman who, despite everything, went toward her dream and desire. No matter what troubles and obstacles she encountered on her way, she always found a way to fix everything.

In that case, then what is special about such a banal story? Why does it deserve a high rating?

    Its purity and light.

This film will make you cry, smile, rejoice, get angry, and mourn along with the main character.

Even though this is a good fairy tale, and this happens very rarely in life, this film can just be a reminder that we must believe in good fairy tales, and sometimes create them on our own. Then in our hearts, there will be a place for a miracle.

    Patronising
English cleaning lady goes to Paris and teaches mister Dior how to save his business.....

This was clearly written by English people because Mrs. Harris is constantly smug and acts like she is better in every way than the French people. Doesn't make sense that everyone immediately likes her because she is rude, annoying, and lacks charms.

I am on Isabelle Huppert's character side on this.

The directing is super cringe and childish. This could have been a great movie with a better script and director because the clothes, scenes are beautiful and the actors are great.

    Honestly, it is a shame.

    A heartwarming story!
I was a little unsure about the quality of this movie before I watched it but it is a good movie and it has its reasons...

First of all there are just so many nice characters that are just so friendly and it makes so much fun to watch them do their things. Also Mrs. Harris herself is just so good written and played. Props to the Writter and Director because not every body can create characters of that kind. Now to the Weaknesses...

I think that the end is missing something (I won't spoil what it's missing). And that's the big problem, because the ending takes such an important Role in a Movie it can drag the movie down 1 star on the rating. I also think that the conflicts of the side characters are just solved to quickly, it feels like they are solved in one Scene and it doesn't make fun.

Beside the problems it's really a good movie with a really heartwarming story. You should probably watch it.

Can't be salvaged even with 50s Parisian beauty
I usually enjoy films set in lovely locations and am ready to forgive a slightly underwhelming movie plot but this was too much. I have reason to believe that even my East coast friends from the United States would have difficulty putting up with this level of cheesiness. If I had to choose between two hours spent watching Mrs Harris went to Paris or non stop viewing of Instagram reels, I'll go for the latter. I must continue writing to complete the six hundred character count. This is certainly no easy feat to accomplish. It deserves a two word review: 'UTTER RUBBISH" I'm really struggling what write next.
