    Mini-Boss!!
'Minions' was a prequel to 'Despicable Me'. 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' is a sequel to 'Minions' and also serves as (another) prequel to 'Despicable Me'. Oh, Hollywood, you never get enough of your sequels, prequels, remakes, reboots and spinoffs, do you?

The dysfunctional yet adorable Minions with their infectious laughter are back for yet another adventure, and once more up to their hilarious antics. For this installment in the 'Despicable Me' franchise we go back to Gru's childhood, when he had dreams of becoming a supervillain.

Gru is up against the Vicious Six, a team of supervillains. He received an invitation to audition for them, but it doesn't quite go as he had hoped. Thanks to their ignorance, he manages to steal the legendary Zodiac Stone. He gives the stone to minion Otto for safekeeping but Otto - attaching no value to the stone - trades it for a Pet Rock.

Gru is then kidnapped by Vicious Six member Knuckles, and demands the Minions bring back the stone or Gru will be killed. And so a hilarious, fantasy-filled adventure begins as we follow the minions in their quest to retrieve the stone. There are so many funny moments in the film! 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' also cleverly mocks so many superhero movies. See if you can guess which ones. Oh, everyone loves those cute Minions!

With 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' having earned $940.7 million at the box office on a budget of $100 million, no doubt there will be another sequel to a prequel which will serve as a prequel to a sequel...

    A bit short
In my opinion, "Minions: Rise of Gru" stands as the pinnacle of Minions and Despicable Me movies. It delivers a delightful blend of humor and adventure, making it a must-see for audiences of all ages. The film's fast-paced nature keeps you engaged throughout, and its clever humor appeals to both kids and adults. The only minor drawback is its relatively short duration, leaving you wanting more. Nevertheless, with its vibrant animation, universal appeal, and non-stop fun, it is a heartwarming cinematic experience that surpasses expectations. My little brother and i loved it and we can't wait for the sequel.

Much better than the first Minions movie
Here's The 4K Lowedown on "Minions: The Rise of Gru" (PG - 2022 - Blu) Genre: Animated/Family

    My Score: 8.3 Cast=10 Acting=7 Plot=7 Ending=9 Story=8 Art=9 Voice=8 Music=7 Family=9 Funny=7

A pre-teen Gru sets off to be the world's greatest supervillain by trying out for the greatest supervillain team. What he and his minions find is something that will change their lives forever.

"One day, I hope to fake my own death to escape the authorities." I found this one much better than the first Minions movie. Like a more juvenile Big Hero 6 if that's even possible, the cast was paramount here for me. If you are a fan of the Despicable Me franchise than this is worth a watch for sure...catch it on Netflix if you do not want the Blu-ray.

    Fun!
The sequel to the spin-off prequel Minions and the fifth movie in the Despicable Me franchise, this is actually the first I've seen. And you know, I liked it! Directed by Kyle Balda and written by Matthew Folgel, this episode takes place in 1976 as the young Gru (Steve Carrell) tries to join his dream supervillain team, Vicious 6, which is made up of Belle Bottom (Taraji P. Henson), Jean-Clawed (yes, JCVD!), Svengeance (Dolph Lundgren), Stronghold (Danny Trejo), Nun-chuck (Lucy Lawless) and Wild Knuckles (Alan Arkin). Plus, you get Julie Andrews as Gru's mother, the RZA as a biker, Michelle Yeoh as Master Chow and Russell Brand as the record store owning Dr. Nefario.

Oh yeah - Pierre Coffin plays Kevin, Stuart, Bob, Otto and the rest of the Minions. But I was amazed at what this movie does: it gives fathers of a certain age a cast from movies that they grew up loving and gives them a movie that they can enjoy with their kids. How cool is that?

Yeah I know - this site is usually me salivating over giallo. But even I can appreciate a fun kid movie.

    This is NOT entertaining,,,totally
Total lack of continuity with the other films. Totally boring. Totally insipid. Totally. Waste of time. After 51 minutes, I bailed. Whatever happened to story telling, character development, and the general sweetness of the Despicable Me movies? Totally gone.

The only funny sequence was with the jet airliner. That's a sad commentary on the movie. Action without meaning. Behavior that was out of character. Whoever is responsible for this dreck should be limited to a coloring book and a box of crayons. A waste of time, money and talent on gawful grot . . . But I repeat myself. Reading the instructions on a tube of toothpaste is more entertaining.

    Waste
Waste of time and money. This should not be a kids movie. The main character aspires to be evil and cause har. Too negative of a storyline for kids. It focuses mostly on the type of problem causing behaviors we don't want to see in children so why would we want to have them watch this? The bad definitely outweighs any good. Glorifying terrible behaviors like bullying is not ok. We can do better SO much better for our children. I'd like to see a movie like this with themes of courage, unity, leadership from characters who genuinely care about others. If you are going to take the time to watch something choose a different movie.
