henry8-3 - 24 June 2024 Five Nights at Freddy's Based on the popular video game, Josh Hutcherson plays Mike, a troubled, rather aggressive individual who dreams constantly of a tragedy in his youth when his young brother was abducted. Needing a job in order to maintain his responsibilities for looking after his small sister, he becomes a security guard at a derelict pizzeria which contains large animatronic cartoon creatures bought to life by the ghosts of murdered children; who have their eye on Abby.
Whilst Hutcherson gives it a go, this is a pretty dreadful mess. It is hard to understand that anyone thought that such a silly plot featuring not remotely frightening creatures that just wobble about slowly would work - and it doesn't - it's just a daft and mostly dull, rather awkward Disneyesque / Horror hybrid. However, whilst critics and audiences seemed to agree it was awful, enough die hard video fans made this a hit and the sequel will emerge in 2025 - a rather sad reflection of the industry's approach to film making. Make no mistake though, this is a lousy film.
ClaireMEldin - 10 June 2024 A film full of tension to enjoy! When it came to watching this film full of action and tension, I was off my seat in every moment I watched this. This film becomes very special because for the audience of younger kids and maybe a slight older audience because this film for us specifically is very important for us as an audience because of how these bring in these aesthetics of the games that were made before this film even came into consideration, it allows us to connect with it due to what we know about it and what we can figure out.
During this film, I was able to experience the tension and the sense of panic these characters were experiencing and it allowed me to be at the edge of my seat every time. I was able to indulge myself into the scenes and the film as a whole and was able to feel in the moment like I was there to experience it. I was also able to allow myself to be mesmerised by how these characters like Freddy Fazbear and Chica were able to be brought to life and we were also able to meet our security guard that we are normally used to have in our point of view due to us being able to play the five night at Freddy's games from the start.
When it came to the length of the film, i looked into how they did the visuals and how they gave our audience an experience of on edge feeling and how they chose the colours of every set perfectly on how their audience is used to it. I loved how they tried to recreate everything perfectly to how the games look in a film form. Everything looked perfect from the audiences eyes and I think it was definitely put there for a younger audience to be able to see as it more reached that age demographic and i also think this was rather put out there for horror lovers due to how much dramatic tension there was based upon it and how many plots we were indulged in every time. I think there was enough time for the audience to be able to figure out what could happen next or what was going to happen in that scene.
One thing I think there should have been more focus on was the background of our animatronics and how they were a main part of our film and the history of the pizzeria and why it was closed and always guarded. I think there needed to be more things to do historically in the film and I think there could have been more intake in maybe the security guards room. I think they could have looked more into that set design and how it should be but also our character, Vanessa, i think they could have added more into her except the background with her father unless its saved for the next 2 films, i think that they were trying to add more suspense to do with her father but I think she could have been more focused on in general.
Another thing to do with this film, I think one of last scenes aka Vanessas dad was making it seem that he died because of the springtraps in his costume, i think it was dragged along quite a bit in order for the next film to be produced and to carry on from there but if you're a fan, you're already likely to know what's going to happen, there wasn't towards the end to keep you involved but the rest of the film, they were able to keep it going.
