comuniktv - 17 May 2024 Bjena peliculao Old again!
About ten months before the release of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife", and without any knowledge whatsoever that a belated sequel was in production, I re-watched the 1984 original for the first time in 25 years, and together with own kids (aged six and ten). Needless to say, my offspring wasn't the least bit impressed with special effects from the early eighties, and to be totally honest, I found that my childhood favorite had badly dated as well.
My biggest regret was that I couldn't pass on that magical feeling of "discovering" the world of horror, monsters, F/X, and ectoplasm! But when we saw publicity for the brand new "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" on television, it were my children who spontaneously asked if we could go and see it on the big screen. So, yes, with a slight delay they experienced how I felt when I saw "Ghostbusters" for the first time. And I felt 9 years old again, myself.
Undoubtedly the best thing that could have happened to the franchise, especially after the flopped 2016-remake, was a return to the roots. The story links straight back to the original, the beloved protagonists show up (albeit briefly) and the co-writer/director is none other than the son of Ivan Reitman; - Jason. "Afterlife" is chock-full of gimmicks references towards the original, varying from subtle to plain obvious. The young cast members are refreshing, and fit wonderfully well in the "Ghostbusters" universe, but it feels even better to reconnect with the old-fashioned familiar trumps, like the legendary Ghostbusters-vehicle and - of course - the Ray Parker Jr. Theme song. The homage to Harold Ramis, one of the creators of the original concept and the only cast member who passed away, is beautiful.
johnspringer-95440 - 8 April 2024 Good Fun All the criticisms are true: this a soft reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise centered around as group of cloying teens that largely coasts on callbacks and nostalgia for the original. It lacks the original's understated wit, tight dialogue and supernatural stakes. But if you temper your expectations there's good fun to be had with this movie, particularly in the breezy affability of the adult cast and a sense of genuine respect for the first installment. It's a slight but probably necessary palate-cleanser to reset the franchise after the loud, dumb, bombastic distasteful disaster-piece that was 2016's Answer The Call.
mesadevil - 31 March 2024 Get rid of the Mother If you could remove the selfish, "all about me", woe is me, lazy mom - this could be a good show. I hated each scene she was in. She is a horrible mother, and a terrible person. She makes fun of her kids, and gives them no hope for a bright future. How in the world do the writers believe we are going to champion her when she doesn't even champion herself, or more importantly, her children. Again, she is a horrible mother. The fact Paul Rudd's character has a crush on her is laughable.
Other than that train wreck, the story line is decent, and the kids are enjoyable. The Phoebe character is great (the daughter), very well acted.
HabibieHakim123 - 26 December 2022 Ghostbusters: Afterlife Deliver And Nailed Almost Everything Right And It Didn't Disappoint, It's A Great Movie And I Love It Look, it's not a perfect movie but that ending was some of the best endings in movie ever period, it's exciting and so emotional and the stuff that they did was really amazed me, the way they did it is perfect, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a sequel to the old franchise film that take everything seriously in terms of casting and productions, stood out performance simply go down to the great Mckenna Grace she is fantastic, the rest of the cast was also great, and the story of Ghostbusters: Afterlife is not like a stupid non-sense forced story that at least it's connected in a way, it's writtenly well done, the CGI was great, and really everything for the most part was great, the first act was great, and the only problem that i have besides the other one being a spoiler is that the second act did fills with some stuff that i found unnecessary and too long but not boring, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife closed with a super solid final act that really mixed all the emotion, it's perfect, the last act of Ghostbusters: Afterlife was perfect, and like i mention in the beginning it is one of the best endings in movie ever, so overall Ghostbusters: Afterlife deliver and nailed almost everything right and it didn't disappoint, it's a great movie and i love it.
helenhaynes-16472 - 24 November 2022 I'd give it 15 if I could! I loved this movie! It brought a tear to my eye at the end knowing Harold Ramis was gone when it was made yet they incorporated him beautifully into it, bringing closure to the family he gave up to save the world. A perfect homage to the original and Mr. Ramis' genius that went into it! Awesomely stayed to the original storyline and the marshmallow men...how hilarious were they? I am very curious to see where they are going to take it considering the open end, hoping there will be another with the remaining 3 a little more involved instead of just the last 25 minutes. Again, loved it- it made me feel 13 again for a little while. I will watch it again!
brent-27849 - 12 November 2022 May include spoilers of a bunch of movies I can't stand In fairness, I'm not a huge fan of fantasy based movies. That is why I don't ever review superhero movies because I have long given up on that crapfest. I say this because I would hate anyone to think I don't review them because I have no reason to, or worse, because I actually like any of the ones I have seen. The term rom-com has often been used derisively, and well deservedly in the past few decades, as they are all the same and bad, though I have no idea how anyone who watches all these superhero movies cannot with a straight face say the same about them (and that includes the oh so serious ones, they're even worse).
As for Afterlife, it is a pathetic, long, boring retread of the far superior original. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the last fifteen minutes or so when we see much of the original cast, especially Sigourney Weaver, showing a sad glimpse of what it used to be when it was done right. Not sure if showing Harold Ramis is in great taste, but it's handled pretty well and I guess if any movie has the right to show his ghost, it would be a Ghostbuster's movie.
The main reason for this review is a question to myself as to why I constantly allow myself to get suckered time and time again by all these sequels and prequels and reboots, all of which can't hold a candle to the originals.
Simply stated, the only good Ghostbusters is the original Ghostbusters, which is not only a good movie but a classic great comedy full of wit and creative invention. The only good Jaws movie is the first one. The only good Jurassic Park movie is the first one. The only good Silence of the Lambs is the first one with Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. The only good Halloween is the first one, though I actually do consider Halloween 2 to be somewhat under rated.
Yet still I come back time and time again like a moron. This has caused me to watch at least 3 too many Terminator movies. As well as way too many Mission Impossible movies; while some are ok, the only one that really had any vision and style with an interesting though convoluted storyline was the first one; the rest all blur together and quite frankly the only memorable scenes was when Ethan Hunt/Tom Cruise rock climbs in the opening of the second one and scales a building in Dubai in whichever one that happens in.
Also caused me to watch 2 very bad It movies, and yes, I mean both of them. The original miniseries, while far from perfect, at least had a way better clown and children I actually gave a damn about. The kids in the new version, I could barely tell apart, and it screws up the most important character, Beth, by having the rest of them ogle her. I don't know if that makes it closer to the book, but it totally misses the point as not only is Beth part of the loser club in the minseries, she is the total heart - she is not separate from them, and she is certainly not a Mary Sue, her courage and strength comes precisely from the fact that she is a scared little girl, but who will do anything to help and protect her friends.
Not to mention one too many Star Wars, aka The Force Awakens. Ironically the reason I even set up an IMDb account was to say how much I hated that movie. But because I finally got the bad taste out of my mouth and have zero intention of ever watching it again, I never did review it, except to say it is the worst, and I mean the worst Mary Sue movie ever done - I didn't even know the term Mary Sue until I saw it and had to go research it.
Also way too many Meryl Steep, oh but isn't she a great actress, no, she ain't, lousy movies. Plus way too many Dicaprio, oh but isn't he a great actor, no, he ain't, lousy movies. As well as way too many Robert Deniro, oh, but he must be a great actor, yeah, he was, a long, long time ago, but he sure ain't any longer, lousy movies. And too many Tarantino, oh but isn't he a great director, maybe, but honestly he's only ever done one truly great movie, Pulp Fiction, lousy movies.
But I am getting better. I have not, nor will I ever watch the latest Jurassic movie, or any that come after. I will never watch another Star Wars movie, (the first trilogy was the only good one btw), and not even Luke Skywalker himself was enough to tempt me. I did not watch the last nor will I ever watch another Halloween movie because while I think Jamie Lee Curtis is Aces, please just stop for the love of god. I will not watch the last James Bond movie, and from where I understand they plan to take the series, there is a good chance I will never watch a new one again.
Finally I hear they're making another Ghostbusters movie, but I guarantee I won't be watching that either. And I don't care if it, along with all the others have 90% plus on RT, or 80% plus on this website, I am just going to assume they all suck. How can I be so sure? Call it past experience.
