steve-lucas63 - 7 June 2024 Like Top Gun on Land (it's that bad) This movie has every stereotype you can imagine; males; fast cars; gamers; teenagers, petrol heads, it's got them all. The script is shallow and generally poor. The actor's performances do little to compensate.
The racing sequences don't look quite right. There's lots of CGI but mostly they don't look 'real'. You'd wonder if they ever looked at onboard footage from actual racing.
Oddly enough, there's a slight polish to the production that actually makes it possible to stay with the story, all the way to the end. Regrettably, once over the finish line, this movie does not win, or even podium. Generally I'd suggest you avoid it if you can.
theman-33610 - 22 April 2024 When non racers makes a racing movie Gran Turismo is such a huge game in the sim racing industry, but this movie doesn't show the true gameplay experience or justice..
The movie is starts up with Jann driving a race in Gr. 3 (GT3) but since he's a top runner in the UK he still uses traction control, line assist and braking assist (that for many users in top level isn't being used at all other than ABS) other than that is the physic off, when he turns his steering wheel and the car still going straight. In the qualification for the real driving experience he starts 19 with all he's friends yelling and shouting behind him (which again doesn't make sense since this really interrupts focus... again he's driving against Europes best GT racers. (if you really wanna se what I mean about concentration go watch F1 Esport championship and see the concentration from these guys.)) sure there is gamers who is capable of driving real race cars but this movie doesn't show the real skills and determination it takes to perform on such a high level. But the physical training is a good representative and Jacks (David Harbour) mentality towards sim racers in the beginning (because some sim racers don't have the experience of judgement calls when traveling at 250 kph inches away from a opponent).
The story is... someward great.. I mean there is still room for improvement, such as driving experience and general racing know how. Like the brakes failing which they don't do in the game (GT don't have brake fatigue built into the game).. and why are they running Hungaroring in reverse when the track is only built for on way racing according to FIA standards?
I'm sure that for none sim or non racing enthusiast this movie seems great and fun to watch with all the hearth rate racing scenes, but they are really staged.. like really... staged... the "Le Mans" race is happening at Hungaroring... in Hungary... so not the actual Le Mans track (despite CGI switching between the two tracks) and its just sad to see.. and the fact that he's getting a LMP2 car without the context of practicing in it before the "Le Mans" race seems a bit misunderstanding for the viewers to understand (since he's only been doing GT3 races so far.. which is like putting a regular person into a spaceship and the LMP2 is a whole other physical monster to handle).
So for a motorsport enthusiast point of view and a person who has grown up with GT and been racing in the real world and traveled Europe round with motorsport... its just sad.. I really like Rush, Le Mans 66´ and Race for Glory: Audi vs Lancia, because these movies really gives a great perspective of what it takes to be the drive, the team principals and the know how of motorsport. But this movie is such a B movie compared to these and I really cringed so many times throughout this movie... I´m sorry if I hurt some feelings but this I true honesty..
if you want a motorsport movie with plenty of action and many points of no returns moments is it a great movie.. just don't look to close and you will see many flaws.
simonschroedl - 24 March 2024 When did Orlando forget how to act? Overall, great Concept and for fans of the video game a pretty solid movie i think. Especially the bridge between reality and video game is pretty well done with animations and so on. But the acting in this whole movie is just horrible. The storylines are poorly executed and so is the Charakter building. The only Charakter that has some development is the main one but even this one we only scratch the surface. And if you say its just a movie for the gaming community i guess its too little of racing and too much emotions for that. Either way you don't get what you want. It had some potential and i think with a deeper storytelling and better acting this could have been a great movie but like this it is at best a 4 out of 10 for me. Would not recommend.
