An original movie to remind us of original sin...!!!
The"WITCH" takes you on an intense journey with a 17th century family and their struggles with nature, faith, and the unknown supernatural power...This is less of a horror film and more about excellent filmmaking...

The dialogue is perfectly matching the way a Puritan family in the 1600's would speak, and the cinematic adaptation of the New-England folklore witchcraft stories is detailed enough to scare the viewer even from the opening scenes. The costumes and the scenery is one exactly matching the period of time the film is settled in...

The casting is magnificent and their performances are the main reason the film is creating this melancholic, yet terrifying scenario especially Anya Taylor-Joy is capturing on her face every emotion during every scene, and just by focusing on her face, one can vividly see her character's terror becoming her source of power, as she is embracing who she really is... The father, played by Ralf Ineson, has an amazing gravely voice that has all the character demands.

Kate Dickie plays the mother brilliantly, her pain and suffering is palpable and affects all of them.

The Slow paced story takes it easy and allows the audience to actually live the situation in their imagination and after some time things start to get messy and dark & Religious people might not like the ending... The point of view is cleverly infused with the fear of the dark woods, the onset of children's puberty, the suspicion of witchcraft and evil increases with each mounting misfortune & few more scares makes even more worth while watched on big screen at times...

Overall A thought provoking films that may not adhere to the standard of its genre, but makes u tense with some startling moments & one can't anticipate any truly suspenseful moments that will leave you speechless...

    Fantastic acting
This movie, about a family in 1630s New England who is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic and possession, is a good folk horror movie!

My biggest complaint is the storyline in the first half. It really takes its time to get from one highlight to another, which there are few of, and makes you wonder if there will be any better because it has surprisingly a great lack of suspense. Fortunately, much of the second half focuses on challenging you. The story is slowly evolving where things get stranger and stranger, making the family turn against each other. I expected more, to be honest, but the superb acting, appealing color grading, and appropriate score (although it only has 38 minutes in total according to Spotify) are the strongest elements, making the movie a mostly compelling experience.

Despite a slow start, this movie captivates with strong performances, striking visuals, and a growing sense of dread. The second half effectively portrays a family's unraveling in the face of the unknown.

Gosh, I can't believe such rubbish got 7 stars.
It's impossible to put into words how ugly, stupid, provocative, and how much boring this film is.

Have you ever hit rock bottom in terms of boredom and annoyance? Yes, this film will drag you there... All of the characters are provocative, the plot is underdeveloped, and the ending cannot be described as stupid.

The scene of the infant was disgusting and completely inappropriate. How could you?

The film's heroine, who appears to be completely innocent at first and is falsely accused of witchcraft and sorcery... "Then it turned out that she was actually innocent and not a witch," the logical sequence of events should have gone there. Noooooo, After killing her entire family, she joins a group of naked witches _for no reason_ who, it turns out, they enjoy ripping the bellies of infants in the forest.

How was this allowed to be made?
Wow, this is probably one of the worst types of these movies and by "these" movies I mean slow burn movies like this garbage where nothing happens all throughout the movie. I watched it cause it was Halloween, I watched everything else and I thought it was going to be like a actual like hardcore kinda horror that took it self seriously (it does sadly) but I was so wrong. 98% of the movie is just talking (I'm not even exaggerating) and there was only 2-3 scenes of a witch and all the talking was in that horrible British old English language so it definitely made it worst. It's a insult to call this horror cause I think anyone can watch this and just be bored, not scared. You'd have to be from the 1600s to find this movie scary. The reason why I gave it a 3 star and not a 1 star was cause of the ending, the ending was good and kinda unique actually it almost makes me want to like the movie but the movie is just completely unlikeable. I really do not understand how this has a 6.9 star rating. Tbh after thinking about over and over I just really love the ending, it's just so rare that there's general a good ending in anything even though I hated the movie I just really love the ending I'll maybe try watching it again but not any time soon, even though the movie was just talking it was at least worth watching it for the ending.

    Beautiful display of collective psychosis
Puritan family is banished from the community in New England and finds itself gradually slipping into the grip of collective psychosis. Reason might not be possible any longer. Beautifully displayed manifestation of pervasive atmosphere of terror, and a projection of "the enemy", imagined to be "in our midst".

Wonderful acting by Anya Taylor-Joy. Ralph "Father" Ineson and Kate "Mother" Dickie performances are good enough. Stunning visually, brings a lot of suspense into viewer mind.

If you have trouble with taming your "monkey mind" this film might not be for you, otherwise enjoy.

    Definitely deserves 9/10.

Low budget movie you should watch if you can't sleep
This is by far one of the most boring and slow paced horror movies I've watched so far. Nothing happens - not even at the end. This would be ok with the story was any good which it unfortunately is not.

To summarize the story: uh uh people mysteriously go missing... boy goes mental and screams... yes that must be witchcraft... random accusations... everyone dies in the most uninteresting ways possible and oh there is a disgusting looking witch for real which bewitches people... everyone's dead so the main character enters a witch cult
    • What the?!?!? Who approved this so called story? This is horrible.

On top of this the visuals look honestly really low budget. I guess the entire budget was spent on the actors which at least do their job well.

I do not understand all the good reviews and I want my money back.
