Thought it was a Terrence Malick Joint
Slow. Slow. And slow. I had to look to see if it was directed by Terrence Malick. Surprised it wasn't.

It's not AS slow as Terrence's movies. So 5/10 stars.

Not sure who it would appeal to. The aspiring excavator that loves the weather in England? Multi-taskers - watch the movie while you vacuum? Make coffee cake? It might be just enough of a distraction for a dentist to use while doing routine cleaning. Definitely not enough for a root canal... definitely not enough. Possible napping material? Some of the music is sharp enough to wake you... maybe.

I may take up pipe smoking due to the main character.

    Rare pleasure
The world still reeling from the World War I is on the brink of another horror. The primal fear of mortality faces a real, imminent danger. Human need for understanding of our limited time on this planet tops any other. A gem of a movie, smart, quiet and subtle. Without cloying sentimentality or cheap shots. Just people looking in the face of catastrophe, personal and worldwide. Rare pleasure.

Good film but another victim of revised history.
Interesting movie, well acted and great filmography.. I really liked the way the story was told in a continuing roll of very short scenes. It held your interest without relying on long dialog. I wondered why at the end they didn't tell you what happened to the characters in real life like many historical films do. So I researched the story and realized that many in the supporting cast either didn't exist or were portrayed completely differently than the real people involved. Unfortunately the true story has been converted to yet another vehicle for Hollywood woke messaging. In this case even the gay twist was true it has nothing to do with the story. This seems to be a requirement for all Hollywood films now even at the expense of rewriting history. But I guess if they can make Hamilton into something he was not anything is possible. What next, General Patton in high heels?

A glimpse into a past not so fast paced
Wasn't quite sure what this about, but such a beautiful film, with a true story behind it. Lots of good lessons about academic achievement verses years of experience. Paced quite slowly, but I never lost interest.

Wonderful performances by all the cast. Real, subdued, and totally believable.
