Cruella

In 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, a young grifter named Estella is determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

Cruella, Cruella, Cruella: one of the best Disney films I've seen!
To be honest, I wasn't expecting to like this movie as much as I did since I never really enjoyed the "101 Dalmations," movies. But I was wrong. This brilliantly dark and insane film starring Emma Stone as Cruella shows us her descent into pure and complete madness. It's the prequel I think we all needed. Full of twists and turns you'd never expect, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. All of the characters, especially Cruella, were written with such detail, they seemed almost real. The execution as brilliant. The dialogue was so real and smooth. I will say the CGI at the end wasn't the best quality, but that doesn't change my opinion about this movie at all. In the end, this dark, lovely, and melancholy prequel showing the story of our dearly beloved Cruella de Vil is something we all didn't know we needed. I would rewatch this movie, and I do recommend.

    Shockingly bad.
Firstly ignore any positive review. That's just our TikTok fake entitled society. Secondly, don't watch this movie if you expect a decent one after watching the original. You can't beat a classic but this didn't even try and if it did it failed terribly bad.

The only decent thing here in the entire project was Emma stone, who despite being unable to live up to her hype in previous movies, and who's innocent looks have greatly faded carries this movie. Perhaps a few other leads did marginally okay as well. Other than that what an absolute mess. By far the worst film I've seen. And if I could score this a zero this would be indeed a zero.

An atrocious mess. A really unfulfilling, over the top experience. They couldn't even decide what time period they were in. One moment there's today's cars and buildings the next it's changed. Just mess after mess. And the first third of the movie is by far the worst. Anyone who praised this needs their head examined. And if this is the way modern cinema is going just to show glamour and theatrical nonsense I don't want any part in it.

    A Tale of Two Emmas.
No doubt entertaining, but not quite the origin story I wanted. Off the bat, it's very hard to compete with Glenn Close as Cruella in my book. So watching Emma Stone take over that role was an interesting choice to witness. She definitely captured Cruella once she donned her black and white hair again for the fancy ball scene and beyond, but her fake British accent used for "Estella" kept me from getting lost in the movie a bit.

I legitimately fell into a mini obsession with Emma Thompson as the Baroness. Her subtlety of facial expression was killer. A true queen. Though, her character was stunted by the writing. I felt they bludgeoned the audience over the head with the narcissism theme. We get it!! She's full of herself! But they made sure none of us could forget it by squeezing on-the-nose dialogue about how great she thought she was in every scene. Ugh. So cheap. So one dimensional. Give us hints about a person! Don't spell it out for us like children.

Another big miss for me: no fur. How can this be Cruella without the FUR?! I know for today's world genuine fur might need to come with a trigger warning, but to me, it's not a Cruella story without that crucial aspect. The Dalmatian spot obsession and fur coat thing is teased at one moment, but it's not enough. We'll never know why Cruella was obsessed with fur and Dalmatians.

What else? The music was great!!! And the fun graphic elements of the newspaper headlines laid on top of the film definitely makes you feel like the movie is "good" even if it's really just all flash and glitter.

Oh and don't get me started on the CGI dogs. I don't understand why they used CGI for every Dalmatian scene. It doesn't feel authentic to only use animation for a crucial aspect of Cruella's history.

Last point: I think the Baroness mother-daughter story was too spelled out in the end. It felt like a classic "shoot we gotta wrap this up, boys" moment for the writers. More show, less tell please. Same goes for when Cruella stood at the fountain one last time explaining to her mom (but mostly the audience) that the cruel, mad girl stuck insider of her is the real her. If she truly was this crazy person on the inside the whole time, and Estella was all an act for her, I wish we'd had seen the "real" her poke through every so often. But instead we just see what seems to be a very genuine and kind Estella character. Then one moment she switches to the Cruella character. It's jarring - which is probs the point. But also unbelievable is my point.

    such an incridible movie!!!
I know that Iam too late to see this film. But better late than never. The film is filled with plot twists. I could not stop saying whatttt while I was watching it. For example when I knew that cruella is the daughter of the baroneee I said what but then I realized that It is kinda possible because cruella thinks like baroneee and she is crazy like her. I liked how she is so intelligent because she made the baronee go to prison finally. The film is so interesting. I was so sad so stressed before watching it. It actually took me out of the depression and sadness. This two hours were one of the most valuable and amazing hours I have ever spent. I think I will rewatch this movie in the future.

Perfect treat for the whole family
Daughter (10/10): It's the best Disney movie I have ever watched. It has everything, comedy, thriller scenes and excellent acting performed by Emma Stone & Emma Thompson. As we all know because of the 1996 movie, Cruella was filthy rich and owned the most famous business in the whole UK, in this movie they have shown how an orphan Estella became Cruella. An outstanding performance and a beautiful creation by Disney. Highly recommended.

    Father (9/10):

I wouldn't think that I would enjoy a silly kids movie ever, but I was in for a surprise, mainly because I was blown away by the lead actors' performances, here I completely agree with my daughter. I was always a big fan of what Emma Thomspon brings to her characters, but the other Emma equally rose to the occasion. The second aspect, the plot, has a very interesting spin, and it has made this movie stand out on its own, given that everyone knows what the classic 101 Dalmatians entailed. Thirdly, the sound track is to die for. These 3 things make it a perfect movie for adults as well as a great watching with your family and kids.

    Far exceeded my expectations
I went into "Cruella" expecting another horrible live action remake of the original animated movies that I loved so much. But wow was I proven wrong this is the first instance where the live action remake is not only as good as the animated version but in my opinion even better! Emma Stone is a incredible actress and captured this role perfectly she turned one of the most hatable movie villains into a extremely relatable and likable protagonist. I'm so glad they didn't stick to the source material and instead made it their own independent story.
