The Croods: A New Age

The Croods: A New Age

Searching for a safer habitat, the prehistoric Crood family discovers an idyllic, walled-in paradise that meets all of its needs. Unfortunately, they must also learn to live with the Bettermans -- a family that's a couple of steps above the Croods on the evolutionary ladder. As tensions between the new neighbors start to rise, a new threat soon propels both clans on an epic adventure that forces them to embrace their differences, draw strength from one another, and survive together.

    Visually great sequal
Maybe a sequel was not needed. But I'm glad it has. The voice acting was great and this movie was very visually appealing. There's a short nit about how guy got there until we are then thrust into the action of the family. The crowds are once more off on their adventure trying to find a new settlement. Grugg finds something that looks like a man made wall, but they weren't expecting what was hidden behind it. There's loads of fun to be have here with some cute looking monkeys to. It's a new era for the crowds and it will be interesting to see if they continue to get more modern in another sequel. Overall i enjoyed this a lot.

Not too terrible but not too good either.
There's nothing extraordinary about this sequel and I will admit that "The Croods" was the movie I prefer over this one any day. Perhaps that is also why the overall rating of this movie's prequel is higher as well.

A New Age tries to be a lot of things and sometimes, too many things can get messy. I enjoyed the new decor and fictional animals but it reminded me more of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (also by DreamWorks) which was better in inventing new species of animals into cartoons.

To put it simply, the salient features are

    The good
    • Story is okay, you get to see Eep and Guy's romance story move forward
    • I like the music
    • Some of the comedic dialogues were genuinely funny
    • The animations are good

    The not so good
    • The story gets a bit ridiculous in some places. It feels like a movie specifically for kids now. The original "Croods" felt more accomodating for adults.

    • Too much of bright colors and Ice Age 5 vibes coming off. Some of the scenes looked like they were out of a child's coloring book
    • The adventure element feels lost. The movie tries too hard to provide a conclusion to the cave mab's adventure and there is little to no discovery, travel or adventure which the first movie had

Overall the movie is really good but too much of a kids movie. I get it that animated movies are usually primarily for kids but I've seen other DreamWorks projects that would.

    The coolest Neanderthals are back
I had doubts when I heard the sequel is as good as part 1, but this movie is gigantic fun. Great gags, great timing, plenty of fantastic ideas. I can't wait for part 3.

    Not close to the 1st
This film is nowhere near the 1st movie and just stupid. It has lost all its charm and everything good about it. I would advise not to bother even watching this.
