Who would want to spend time with these people?
I've cheerfully watched many a mediocre rom-com that gets by on the charm of its stars, and generally one or two fun hammy supporting players (a good example would be Amazon's recent Upgraded). But I bailed on this one after about thirty minutes. Every single character (including the parents) was not only totally unbelievable but utterly detestable: vapid, petty, vain, narcissistic, and just plain mean. I couldn't stand to spend another minute with them. I understand that the movie was (supposedly) loosely based on Much Ado About Nothing. (Unfortunately William Shakespeare can't sue, him being dead and all.) My suggestion to anyone thinking about watching this: Don't, but instead seek out Kenneth Branagh's delightful 1993 Much Ado About with Branagh, Emma Thompson, Kate Beckinsale, in her film debut, and an absolutely stellar supporting cast.

"Anyone But You" is a fresh flick that's totally lit!
"Anyone But You" is a fresh flick that's totally lit! The chemistry between the leads is off the charts, making every scene a blast to watch. The storyline is engaging, full of twists and turns that keep you hooked from start to finish. The humor is on point, and the romantic moments are downright swoon-worthy. Props to the director and cast for pulling off such an entertaining movie. It's definitely worth a watch if you're in the mood for a feel-good film that doesn't take itself too seriously. Highly recommend catching this one!

"Anyone But You" is a delightful romantic comedy that truly entertains. The lead actors share wonderful chemistry, bringing humor and charm to the screen. While the plot may be somewhat predictable, the witty dialogue and amusing scenes more than compensate for it. The soundtrack is excellent, adding to the overall enjoyable atmosphere of the film. For those seeking a lighthearted and enjoyable movie experience, "Anyone But You" is a great choice. You'll find yourself laughing and cheering for the protagonists from start to finish.

    Movie script is awful
"Anyone But You" was supposed to be a delightful addition to the romantic comedy genre, but it falls disappointingly short. Despite its promising premise and an array of talented actors, the film ends up being a forgettable and tedious watch.

The main actors, who usually light up the screen, seem disconnected and uninterested in this film. They are both well-known for their charisma and ability to bring characters to life, yet here they appear to be just going through the motions. Their interactions feel awkward and forced, making it tough for viewers to invest in their relationship. Romantic comedies thrive on chemistry between the leads, but this film is sorely lacking in that department. Their relationship, which is supposed to be the heart of the story, falls flat and fails to engage the audience.

The supporting characters are just as disappointing. They come off as flat and stereotypical, adding very little to the story. Instead of providing depth or comic relief, they feel like cardboard cutouts, existing only to push the plot along. This lack of character development is a significant flaw, as memorable supporting characters often enhance the richness of a romantic comedy. Here, they are simply forgettable.

The movie's pacing is another major issue. It's all over the place, with some scenes dragging on way too long while others rush through key moments. This erratic tempo disrupts the flow of the story and makes it difficult for viewers to stay engaged. Romantic comedies need a certain rhythm to keep the audience entertained and invested, but "Anyone But You" misses the mark entirely. It feels like a patchwork of scenes rather than a cohesive narrative, which detracts from the overall experience.

Despite its beautiful settings and high production values, the film lacks the charm and magic that make a great romantic comedy. The picturesque backdrops and polished visuals are not enough to compensate for the weak script and lackluster performances. It's a classic case of style over substance. The film looks good on the surface, but it doesn't have the emotional depth or engaging storytelling to back it up.

The script is perhaps the biggest letdown of all. It's filled with clichés and predictable plot points that make the film feel stale and uninspired. There's a lack of originality in the writing, and the dialogue often comes across as forced and unnatural. Instead of witty banter and heartfelt moments, we get awkward exchanges and contrived situations. This poor writing undercuts any potential the film might have had and makes it difficult to connect with the characters or care about their journey.

Moreover, the humor in the film falls flat. Romantic comedies rely on a mix of romance and comedy to succeed, but "Anyone But You" struggles with both. The jokes are predictable and rarely land, resulting in more groans than laughs. The film seems to be trying too hard to be funny, and in doing so, it misses the mark. This lack of effective humor further drags down the overall experience.

In conclusion, "Anyone But You" is a significant letdown. Despite the star power and high production quality, the film fails to deliver a compelling or enjoyable experience. The weak script, poor acting, and erratic pacing make it a chore to sit through. Instead of being a delightful escape, it's a film that leaves viewers frustrated and disappointed. For fans of romantic comedies, this one is best skipped in favor of more engaging and well-crafted options. There's a lot of potential in the premise and the cast, but unfortunately, it's all wasted in this lackluster effort. "Anyone But You" is, regrettably, a film that you'll want to forget.

Lovable leads in a fun rom com that should not have any expectations.
    4 out of 5 stars.

Anyone But You is a good romantic comedy film that follows Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) who almost had a successful date which leads to a bad breakup. Year later, there mutual friend is having a wedding and both of them agree to pretend to be in love to despise there exs.

Plot is a rom com and predictable. It is fun. It has some fun moments. The characters are fun. The two main leads Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney were the highlights and it was fun seeing them bickering at each other. The direction is a rom com. We all know were it is going to lead too.

It has a great cast ensemble. The humor is fun. The leads had a lot of fun. It was a fun film with some thin issues with its cliche.
