Fun movie spoilt by the never ending music over the entire show.
This movie presents an adorable and unique story that is perfect for family viewing. However, the loud and never-ending sweeping music has become quite overwhelming. It seems that the director and the sound engineers may have overlooked the fact that the music sometimes drowns out the dialogue. The intense music seems to be working overtime and it's beginning to make the movie feel excessively mushy as if every scene is a finale! While the emotional tone of the music is important, finding a better balance and allowing moments of silence is equally crucial. A huge let down to an otherwise enjoyable exhilarating show.

    Unexpectedly Good
I didn't expect to like this movie. I am probably not the main demographic being an almost thirty year old childless woman. But even so, this movie had me laughing. I expected a lot of dry humor that we get a lot from current kid movies and TV shows but that was not necessarily the case with this movie. The movie was genuinely funny and it had a lot of heart too. They did a decent job with the animation. Clifford did not look creepy or anything. I mean the animation could have been so much better but it was still decent. I did not expect to like this movie in any way. I expected it to be another cringey kid's movie. Yes, I am an adult and I watch kids movies. Sometimes they can be good like this movie. I would say check it out. If anything it would at least make you laugh.

    Terrific family entertainment.
Nasty corporate villains, funny neighbourhood characters and two great leading turns. Oh yes and a brilliant CGI creation of a big red dog. If you can't get something out of this, rather like not liking the muppets you have no soul or a member of the fun police.

What a Big Red Surprise! Really Fun and Entertaining, even for adults
The Good: Well, colour me surprised. Clifford the Big Red Dog is easily one of the better "classic children characters brought into the real world" movies I've seen in a while. There genuinely seems to be love for the character that comes off the screen in this movie, problems with it notwithstanding. At first, the prospect of "Clifford in New York City" felt a bit tired, but I have to say, the way the filmmakers used the environment to come up with pretty entertaining scenarios for a truck sized puppy was admirable.

I really liked how Clifford is - stay with me here - is almost treated as a terrifying entity, especially to most of the adults in the movie. It's not only realistic, but really funny considering how innocent and playful he really is. I also appreciated the comedic talent on display here: Jack Whitehall, Tony Hale, and Izaac Wong really stand out. This movie is legitimately funny, with Whitehall in particular ultimately becoming a really relatable and well rounded character. Even the obvious "corporate villain" is elevated because, well, Tony Hale is fantastic.

The Bad: I feel bad criticizing an otherwise quite good movie aimed at children, but Clifford starts off a little rough. The lighting looks cheap, the humour doesn't hit from the get go, and Clifford...oh boy. I'd say dodgy CG is a chronic issue with this movie, but it's at its worst from the beginning. Maybe it's easier to make a big CG character than it is a miniature one, but the way Clifford looks in the beginning is quite bad. The way he moves and squirms is so weird and off putting. It's also when the performances are at their worst.

The Ugly: I don't usually remark on end credit sequences, but WOW. The animation and the music come together to create one of the best end credit rolls I have seen in a long time. It was genuinely heart warming and life affirming. The music in general is surprisingly awesome in this movie.
