wellthatswhatithinkanyway - 24 June 2024 Misfiring attempt at centred horror tale STAR RATING: ***** Brilliant **** Very Good *** Okay ** Poor * Awful
In a post apocalyptic world, Paul (Nicolas Cage) and his twin teenage sons, Joseph (Jaeden Martell) and Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins) are holed up in their remote farmhouse, trying to survive and avoid the clutches of the sinister creatures that now inhabit their space. When one of the boys fails to return home on time, and Paul becomes invalid, a bond with a fellow farmhouse not far away, where fellow teenager Charlotte (Sadie Sotherall) resides, becomes their only hope.
Nicolas Cage became a notable figure, when his status dropped from being a huge box office draw to churning out a series of low budget, straight to DVD films in order to deal with a huge debt. This little publicised horror/sci-fi effort, from writer Mike Nilon and director Benjamin Brewer, has the presentation and feel of one such film, that experiments with a number of different camera styles, in order to create a distinctive style, but this is a film that fails to work.
It's a fairly familiar and interesting concept, with only a handful of characters crammed into a condensed running time, watching them go through the motions and try and maintain their sanity. Sadly, the complete lack of any effective character development on display here, leads to an inability to care about the fate of any of these people, and the outlandish, far fetched predicament they find themselves in. As easily the most recognisable face in the cast, in the lead role, Cage is assertive and commanding, but unable to shine at his eccentric, zany best.
With the imminent release of the highly publicised A Quiet Place: Part One just around the corner, this just feels like a cheap cash in to get some extra bums on seats. Since it's just a lowbrow knock off of those films, that's what will shine through. **
cthirlby - 18 June 2024 What was the point What was the point of this movie? Legend says nobody knows. This movie literally left me feeling like I wasted my time and I don't say that much but genuinely nothing happened and there was barely a story, it was just a couple characters existing. The camera work looked so shakey you could barely see stuff, the camera men must've been on a trampoline when making this. The lighting was really bad though, you couldn't see a lot of scenes due to this. At least we got to see the monsters properly though right? WRONG! It would either cut off them or it would be too dark or shakey again. What you could see from them looked unique but super goofy. At least Nicolas Cage got some good screen time right? Nope he barely did anything. Only good parts was it was mildly creepy at the start before monsters were shown. Ending was just really crap to top it all off with an unrealistic survival from the characters and a final monster that did a cartwheel? Okay then. Maybe next time they'll write a script for the film and it'll be good I think. Bad movie.
WhatTheAudienceReallyThinks - 1 June 2024 Most unique monster design and features!!!! So cool!!! Wow this movie got better and better as it went on!! The monster design is totally unique and really cool! Definitely had features I have never seen before. I thought this movies was very good. Kept me watching the whole time. Everytime the creatures showed up I was blown away by how strange they were. I had to pause the movie a few times to try to figure out what the creature was and how it worked.10/10 movie. I was not expecting it to be this good.
Great job to the whole cast and crew behind this film. I will be referring this movie to everyone. The story line was great too. When you thought the move was about to slow down... BOOM something cool and exciting happens!
Very very happy with this movie.

I actually enjoyed the film but the monsters were weird and me and my bf died laughing at them.
The extended finger and rolly polly was the best bit.
