Pearl

In 1918, 61 years before the events of X, Pearl, trapped on her family’s isolated Texas homestead, must tend to her infirmed father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies, Pearl’s ambitions, temptations and repressions collide.

    Nearly perfect
I avoided watching this for a couple years because I hated X. I'm so glad I eventually watched this. It's now one of my all-time favorite horror movies.

Mia Goth is fantastic. She's always a good actor but this is the best acting I've seen from her. All the other actors were great too. There wasn't a single weak link.

One thing I didn't like about X was that it felt so cliche. None of the deaths made an impact with me because I didn't care about any of the characters and I didn't feel like there was much of a deeper story. This movie is the opposite of that. The story is what drew me in initially. By the time the violence really starts, I had almost forgotten that it was going to be a slasher. And because they developed the characters and story, every single death was intentional and felt like a punch in the gut. It felt more like a gothic horror than a cheesy slasher.

Nothing like I have seen before!
This movie is truly a coming of rage story for a farmer girl who just wanted to make it big as a dancer or a performer. The main character Pearl is HIGHLY unpredictable and was driven to madness by her terrible life at home. She does questionable things all to 'become a star.' I find it highly interesting that she was able to train an alligator just by feeding it. That was all very shocking, plus this is a female serial killer! We don't get many of those and let's just say, these people know how to make someone insane. Mia Goth, the actress who plays Pearl was unnerving in the best ways possible. She played the part of an insane woman very well, even in the end scene where she smiles so big for the rest of the credits. She even tears up! It was phenomenal, I highly recommend this movie!

    Khan Review- watch it
I can say after long this is one of the best I found on netflix. It's well made movie every aspect of the movie is good, credit goes to script , director, actors, back ground score, location this all together gives you a fine movie. All actors did very good job the leading girl was too good and yes actor David is very hot tempting a kind of look even straight men can get attracted to. Only dissapointment was if they had shown his love making scene this guy is too hot. From start to end this movie not even for a second will distract the viewers , the viewers will feel totally into it enjoying every scenes. As a fan of horror genre my suggestion don't miss this.

    Dreams and Reality
I already saw X the movie with that Pearl character is on this movie. So now we see Pearl and in what family she growns with: a father who is disabled and cant take care of himself, a mother really strict and have a certain autority on Pearl. And Pearl is one of the girl who wants her freedom and do something big like the dance stuff and to be a star. Like in her dream. We will see also a weird behavior from her with her dad (thougnt about drowning him). Pearl will get some friend who will helped her but that girl is too sensitive and will really be violent at multiple times. And be self centered always. So Pearl will kill her new boyfriend, the sister in law too (because she gets a job that she wanted). I mean we just see a girl who really just selfish and when things dont turn in her advantage she becomes really angry and thats all. I mean the performance of the actor of Pearl is great but really superficial and i didnt really get into that character and clearly lacked of psychological mechanism(except the autority of her mother and stuff like this). I just felt that the movie was just an excuse to make some violent scenes and to use the characters to make Pearl justified the violence. Really superficial and boring in my opinion.

    Misery business?!
This is another nostalgic looking film. Pearl (Mia Goth) is a simple farmer's daughter whose mere existence yearns for some excitement & an escape route. Her father is left quadraphonic after an accident and it is among her daily role to look after him as well as the farm. Her only escapism is her daily visits into the local town to sell off the homemade products.

One day she meets a stranger, that works as the projector operator, after watching a film. He gives her an open offer to visit him and watch any film she desires. It is set in 1918 during the Spanish Flu. The stranger offers an escape route out from her current life predicament. However, she has a dark secret that is fascinating. She enjoys killing animals...

Pearl is like Stephen King's Misery antagonist (aka The Cathy Bates character) & Norman Bates combined but with her backstory explored. Mia Goth is the "star" in this film and it is twisted and her descent into utter madness and realising her psychotic villainess potential is an exhilarating watch. She was great in the film X but she excels & steals this film. This makes me excited to watch Maxxxime!

    It's the Mia Goth show!!
Mia Goth is by far and away the best thing in this back story tale of X that came out earlier in the year.

X was a really good piece of horror that kept us guessing right to the end. Pearl is the origin story of the mother from X.

Although not as good as its predecessor, Pearl is about a descent into madness that leads to some rather delicious murders and fabulously unhinged chase scenes.

The rest of the movie keeps us interested but not really engrossed.

The problem with prequels is that we know how they must end to make the original work and so there isn't the same 'edge of your seat' feeling. Still good though.

    Great
This movie was quite great to me and really succeeded in being a great prequel and I think it's better than X. Mia Goth does such an amazing job playing Pearl that she is becoming one of my favorite actresses in cinema and I hope to see her play more characters like this in the potential future. The plot is also great and oh my the kills are something else throughout as there isn't a ton but it does have something great ones throughout and I'm going to recommend this movie to all my friends due to how much I truly enjoyed this movie from start to finish and I think this is a movie everyone needs to see.

    before X
Horror movie of 2022. My suggestion for this movie is to watch the movie X first. And then this movie. Because Pearl and Howard are the killer old couple in the movie X. The place is the same. Even the crocodile is the same. In this movie, we watch how Pearl goes crazy. The same actress plays the girl who looks like herself in the movie X. The movie is reminiscent of old productions. The time is World War I. Pearl's husband enlisted in the military. Her father is completely paralyzed and her mother reflects all her rebellion on her daughter. The girl has only one dream. To be a dancer. But her mother certainly won't support it either. The tension that was not felt in the first movie is present in this movie. For Pearl, the cinematographer draws the road. Saying, "Maybe you'll act in movies like this".

There are scenes of sexuality and nudity in the movie.
