Operation Mincemeat

Operation Mincemeat

In 1943, two British intelligence officers concoct Operation Mincemeat, wherein their plan to drop a corpse with false papers off the coast of Spain would fool Nazi spies into believing the Allied forces were planning to attack by way of Greece rather than Sicily.

Should have been called Operation Woke Overload
This one was hard to stomach. Somehow, the production team took an absolutely fascinating real life story and turned it into a dirge about patriarchal oppression.

I had looked forward to this movie with great enthusiasm after reading a book on the subject. For example, military intelligence agents had to procure an anonymous corpse that nobody would miss, but with all the right physical attributes for this bold ruse. Then a realistic background had to be created to fool enemy intelligence. Just those shenanigans alone would have made for a fascinating movie.

Instead, the main takeaway from this movie is that society was different years ago. For the most part, men ran the show. That's just how it was. Ah yes, but let's suck all the life out of this story by applying today's standards to a daring plan put into action three generations in the past. Count me out...

    Plodding expo
We had to buy the disc of this owing to the lack of any streaming where we live in the UK other than 15 quid or more via Sky just to rent. Some films are worth it, some are worth waiting for but as it turned out this was neither... maybe should reassert my patience but then you have no clue if let alone when either PV or NF will bring it to us (and we pay for them as well... costly hobby this movie watching and now we have yet another disc on the shelf to gather dust).

It was good in places with a star Brit cast but it is soo ponderous and plodding replete with inappropriate wokiness. There's very little other than "people talking to each other in rooms" but there is a lot of smoking and a bit of swearing but no sexy bits...

Solid and reliable to the very end
The film is an engaging and well-acted wartime drama with a plot which may seem outlandish at the outset but in reality it was an intelligent one.

I had a good time watching this and recommend it to everyone who likes the War genre.

    Umm, forget the real story
Yes, just view this as a new film based on WW2. The expected coterie of British actors...I wish someone else, other than Colin Firth, could have played Montagu.

Nice to see wonderful Matthew Macfadyen on our screens again. His portrayal of Stonehouse was excellent.

Totally unnecessary ridiculous romantic tangents adding to the overly long time.

This original story is so superb that it almost seems a work of fiction.

I would suggest people read Ben MacIntyre's superb book about Operation Mincemeat.

I'm hoping the way this story has been portrayed will make it more 'interesting' to the many people who have absolutely no idea what went on during the war. However, it isn't a patch on "The Man Who Never Was'.

    Good war drama
Very good film. I was a bit generous in giving it a 7 but with all the idiots out there giving undeserving films high scores I felt I had to compensate for that. Seriously the way people give out 10's here is ridiculous. Operation mincemeat is the story of how the British tricked the Germans into thinking the d day attack would be conducted elsewhere and at a different time. It's a story about subterfuge and espionage. There's a lot of good content that describes the situation in Europe and the length of which the British had to go to to make their plan work. I can watch ww2 dramas till the end of my life it's such an interesting subject.

Spoiled by the loud music drowning out dialogue
I was really looking forward to seeing this film. A good old-fashioned British war time drama.

Unfortunately most of the time the dialogue is drowned out by the unnecessarily very loud music.

Every time something was about to happen or something important explained the music suddenly soared over the dialogue.

The actress playing Jean was terrible and her accent very strange. What was the point of her role?

The actor playing Churchill was miscast; he was weak and sounded too effeminate. Did he get the part because he was portly?

Best thing about the film was the actor playing Ian Fleming.

The worst thing about the film was the unnecessarily loud music. I wonder if the actors are aware that their efforts will not be heard by the viewers as their words are drowned by the LOUD MUSIC.

    Better than the old version
Quite entertaining and engaging espionage drama. Certainly watchable but the purposely one dimensional characters aren't quite capable of keeping your interest through its very long running time.

Nevertheless it does convey an authentic 1940s mood including a little early 40s English humour which gives it a familiar feel. If it was half an hour shorter it might have been good rather than reasonable.
