eb-47055 - 19 June 2024 Overrated! I really don't understand all the love this movie gets. As most of you all have read, there are people out there that think The Batman is better than any of the Dark Knight trilogy or either of Burton's movies and I really don't understand it. Pattinson is horribly miss cast, the story kind of loses itself as it progresses and the score has one good track that is played over and over. I know the director was trying to make this the most grounded and realistic Batman to date but in doing so, he made unbelievable... what's up with Batman being so accessible and accepted around cops that at times he walks amongst them like he's one of them? If someone really wanted to find out the identity of Batman, couldn't they use facial recognition technology by taking his picture while he's hanging around? The Batman I am more familiar with lurks in the shadows and really only talks to Gordon and other people in his inner circle.
There were some things I liked about the movie...I did give it a 6/10. The set design and the overall feel of Gotham was really cool and made me think of Seven which the director was obviously going for. Collin Farrell as Oz/The Penguin stole every scene he was in, I liked Wright as Gordon and Paul Dano's Riddler was extremely creepy.
I have tried watching the movie again and did like it more the second time but I still think it's the most overrated movie to come out in the last few years.
iadrigb - 27 May 2024 Most irrelevant trash I've watched, ever. There's actually not more to say as the movie is so irrelevant, uninspired, boring and foreseeable that even the horrible cast, especially the Batman actor, couldn't possibly make it any worse !!!
Just don't watch it.
To get the minimum amount of characters, here's a recipe for a nice cocktail :
1. In a cocktail shaker with ice, add vodka, blackcurrant liqueur, lemon juice, and cranberry juice.
2. Shake vigorously until well-chilled.
3. Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass, and garnish with a twist of lemon or a few fresh cranberries, if desired.
The end the end the end the day end.
mateoradovan - 13 May 2024 Better than expected This batman - turned detective, was better than expected in the Batman universe. From the beginning it was very captivating, very original storyline, very well made and filmed. Great cinematography and must say BATter batman movie then Nolan's franchise. The cast were great and they made this movie full and fulfilled, especially the sickness and madness of Paul Dano. Great musical score and Pattison did great as batman. I wasn't aware of the fact that this is going to be an dark twisted detective movie, but it was amusing, great history deception of a character. I couldn't take my eyes off it from the beginning till the end.
sidelsworthy - 11 January 2023 This film is brilliant I personally like all of this film. I just think they could work a bit more on the cast because Riddler was too dark for my liking and in my opinion Paul Dano wasn't great as Riddler but he could have been better. Robert Pattinson was perfect not just as Batman but as Bruce Wayne as well. In the scene where Alfred lies in the hospital bed you could really see the fear in Pattinson's eyes as the scene progresses. If anyone hasn't seen this film. I personally think that you should. Whether it's buying it on DVD or streaming it on your streaming service wherever the film is available (HBO, Sky, YouTube)
nightcrawler-01053 - 7 January 2023 Overlong, Lethargic and Boring! Yet another below average comicbook movie that's overlong, lethargic and boring. The Batman has a piss poor script and one of the worst chase sequences ever filmed. Batman isn't Batman (Robert Pattinson has all the emotional range and menace of a wet brown paper bag), Catwoman isn't Catwoman and Riddler isn't The Riddler.
I could barely get through more than half of this tripe. It's just sooo boring. Batman can seemingly instantaneously figure out Riddler's riddles, but he can't work out that a rat with wings is a bat and not a penguin!? Um, what? The Riddler is a psychopath instead of a sociopath and his costume is as un-Riddler like as you can possibly imagine.
It's all so inane and pointless I stopped watching before falling asleep.
garethcrook - 2 January 2023 Someone call Fincher, he's been robbed. If you're here for an in depth look at the theory of this sprawling story. Forget it. I'm not that invested. I also have a general dislike of superhero films. This review is for the skeptics. Can you still enjoy a film like The Batman? Let's assume we know no back story. Does this still work? We're in the dark troubled city of Gotham of course. The city is broken. Riddled with crime. Politicians floundering to find a fix. The Batman is the justice. A vigilante picking off the criminals. To set the tone, think Se7en. Dark grimy streets and incessant rain. All captured by suitably epic camera choreography. A quick look at the cast list should quell any fears. It's stellar to say the least. It's all about the bat though isn't it. Is Pattinson up to the expectation of the role? You can drawer your own conclusions, but I think so. His jaw is set firm in that mask, the eyes are locked and the vengeful voice raspy and believable. I like this darker edge these films have taken. Like The Joker, there's menace on the screen. It's no where near as grim as Se7en, but the mystery poised around the perpetrator that emerges does feel like we're on that path. Dead souls and handwritten note pads. The superb Jeffrey Wright plays a cop, sympathetic to our caped hero and teams up in a fashion to catch a eulogising killer with a fondness for riddles... even I know where this is headed and that answers the question as to whether you can come in cold to this. Not really, you do need at least a little back story knowledge. For a second I wonder if we're gonna go The Crow route, with Halloween circled on the calendar, Bruce Wayne's lank hair, smudged dark eyes and Nirvana's 'Something in the Way' needle dropped. It feels a bit too cool, but it's a fleeting moment and there's more 'Ava Maria' than anything else. Andy Serkis shows up as Alfred, Bruce Wayne's often underused home help. Here though he's given a bit more to chew on and Serkis is more than capable of chewing the scenery. It's a bit hokey in places, but it needs the injections of humour to stop it flatlining. The pace is pretty relentless, quite a feet for a nearly 3 hour film. The amount of seedy characters helps. Colin Farrell is unrecognisable as an foreshadowing of The Penguin (he looks more like Depp trying to be De Niro) and Zoë Kravitz easily holds her own as a feisty proto-catwoman. This could quickly just turn into a list of names. Let's get the rest out of the way, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Con O'Neill, Peter Sarsgaard, Barry Keoghan, I guess films like this, everyone wants in. I don't blame them though. Before we've even really got into the meat of the second act, I'm hooked. The costumes etc. Are almost secondary, superficial, certainly not needed for the main plot. This is a straight up crime thriller. Following the clues, digging a little deeper into Gotham's criminal underbelly with each step. Let's talk about the car though. Alright there's lots of fantasy tech in this film, but generally the weaponry and toys are lovingly basic, mechanical. His car stalls for Christ sake and it's not exactly the Batmobile as imagined before, more of a Mustang crossed with a buggy with a rocket welded to the back. It's badass. Although I said the pace is punchy. I'm not a fan of needlessly long narratives and this does feel like it would've benefitted from losing an hour. I guess time has to be made to get some shirtless shots of Pattinson in. I can't really point to a weak link though. It all works. The further we get in, the more I'm convinced of the Se7en playbook. It's twisty with a deep emotive plot, but still nice and easy to follow. Someone call Fincher, he's been robbed. The finale is chillingly post-modern, but it tapers off rather than explodes. This is an expansive story though and it feels both entertaining and final. It's not the end though is it. If there's one thing that's predictable about these films, it's the seed planted for the follow up. I'm not excited about that, but on the strength of this, I'll probably tune in. Skeptics can enjoy The Batman.
unfilteredt - 29 December 2022 Promising at first but then starts it's slow descent "Poetic" shots
Familiar music
Plot holes
Long drawn scenes
Pointless romances
Boring action sequences
Meaningless finale
Was expecting a lot from this one and the first ten minutes were promising! Loved the whole Gotham vibe. Robert Pattinson was great as always. Andy Serkis' Alfred was mediocre at best. Almost fell asleep in that hospital scene. Paul Dano's Riddler felt a bit half baked and just like any other psycho criminal. The Penguin played by an unrecognisable Colin Farrell did full justice to the character. John Turturro, Geoffrey Wright, Zoë Kravitz all played their parts beautifully. The Falcone plot overall was more interesting and could've taken centre stage had they explored it more. Would've made for a tighter, shorter film that would've been true to the detective genre instead of the bloated three hour saga with the obligatory beat 'em up climax.
The thought behind the film and the world created was interesting but it ultimately was detective-ing in the wrong places and wasn't interesting enough. Soundtrack was mediocre too with a lot of familiarity and uncanny similarity to the Imperial March and the Dark Knight Rises. The film had all the ingredients to be great but in the end was just as mediocre as Matt Reeves' Planet of the Apes offerings. Extremely disappointing.
nedmollison-28923 - 24 December 2022 Falls Flat So many gripes. Batman/Bruce has one expression the whole film, whichever face he is wearing. His origin and motivation are unclear, too - there's no "why we fight." Gordon is just ornamental. And none of the protagonists have good rapport, including B-man and C-woman.
Villains were unmemorable. Riddler motives are muddled. He wants to expose corruption and hypocrisy. Why send C4 to Bruce? Then later disappointed he doesn't want a team up?? And he doesn't do anything his true identity except some song-songy taunting. Cherry on top: final action scene makes zero sense - how is killing the honest new mayor + drowning the city aligned to the "kill the lying phonies" plan?
Just a mess of a story that takes too long, as well.
aaronward-57623 - 22 December 2022 I wouldn't recommend this to anyone For one pattinson barely even spoke in the movie and people say that he made a great batman! Sorry but he is a billionaire business owner that deals with people all the time!!!! Second Batman secret lair is a batcave!!! Not a old abandoned railway tunnel!!! This is why i think i am done with the DC universe!!! Gunn and Safran taking away one of the best superman's played by anyone and they are quitting wonder woman who she makes a wonderful wonder woman and also because of this movie!!! They said they rather make stupid movies like this that for me took several type of scenes from other batman movies to put into this one!!! Those 2 Directors need to direct cartoons than live action!!!!
ukgekko - 17 December 2022 The Bat and the Cat I enjoyed it but I really wanted to like this more.
It paints the world of Gotham as a dark place and it's hero's and villians as good or bad /crazy people sometimes in between but in the end can't help giving into all its predecessors camp pageantry with costumes and villians orchestrating a big Hollywood finale. Still an enjoyable version though and the car? Chicks still love the car or the motorbike in The Cats case 🙀
The casting is bizarre in that the people populating Gotham are unmemorable, weak of character and face leaving an unsatisfactory feeling.
The exception is Sirkis who positively shines head and shoulders above the rest of the unmemorable cast and provokes a feeling of expectation just by entering a room
A miss for me but somewhere in there is a really different Batman trying to get out.
