Firestarter

For more than a decade, parents Andy and Vicky have been on the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction. Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family's location, a mysterious operative is deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans.

    Absolutely shocking
I can't even be bothered to type up how bad this film is. Needless to say, nothing at all like the original. I love Stephen king and some of the films they make based on his books are not good at all. But this?... THIS?.. it's nearly 2 hours of my life I will never get back. Nothing actually happens in this film that remotely keeps you on edge..think the original film is 40 years oldish?. And it blows this shower of manure out the window,it really does.if I would have known how bad this film was going to be,I'd of sat in my garden and rather watch weeds come through the grass. Avoid avoid AVOID!!!

    This remake of firestarter was!!
I do not think the remake of this movie was worth the time and money spent. Its nothing like the book or the first release with Drew Barrymore. I was really upset to see key points of the story left out and replaced with what they call updated scenes. If your going to make a Stephen king novel into a movie do it by the BOOK! I Mean that literally. Where is the beginning sequence of the father and daughter runnibg from the shop? The cab scene was cut out also along with the airport scene. Then the farmer picking them up as hitchhikers gets the dollar bill push as the hundred insted of the cab driver getting 500. The whole scene was wrong. Farmers wife was silent and where was the grandfathers cabin in the woods and the shop scene when they catch charlie and work on her powers? None of the story fits together without all those key parts missing. Im sorry i waisted my time watching it. Next time do it the correct way!!

    Awesome Remake
It emphasize the father and daughter scenes very well. He always tried to protect her. The mother plays a vital role too. The rewind part about the mother had helped the storyline more interesting and attractive. The bond are strong between the father and daughter. It's almost about the relationship between a father and a daughter from the perspective of a daughter.

Overall, the moving are in the touching line. Somehow there have some scary scene too. The music sounded scarier than the original top. The plot twist are very fine, combining the horror and thriller element that will make others heart bumping.

Not as bad as I expected
I read the reviews and figured that it was a bunch of Stephen king fans and Barrymore fans that were getting their knickers in a twist. It seems so. Efron puts in a very good performance and if, like me, the book hasn't been read, and the Barrymore film wasn't seen ( I got sick of seeing her in nearly every kid movie and had totally switched off by 84) then the story is good, even if it does deviate from something else that others were expecting. I have to ask myself why did they watch if they thought it was worth only one or two points. Kings fans surely must realise that any adaptation will be with his blessing.

    Wow, terrible so disappointing
Though this would be good a remake of a classic king novel with todays technology

    Wrong

Awful and such a wasted opportunity.

Massive amounts missing from the book and the last 20 mins what a waste.

This could have been so good but they missed out all the essential parts to build the story, just chucked bits in to keep us interested. So bad and such a waste of time and talent.

Needed more meat on the bone, better special effects, better and more content to build the reason for the ending, needed much more about lot6 experiments, needed more on Charlie training herself, just a pile of pants and ot even hotpants, leave it on the shelf.

    Worth a watch
Don't listen to most of these reviews. They will tell you either: the book is better (which may be true, but snobby book people) or it's a needless remake/the original was better. Having never read the book or knowing this was a remake it gets a solid 6-6.5.

I had a few main issues with the movie, but idk how they relate to the story 1) the fact she learns to control her power in what appears to be a day 2) having never displayed any telekinetic powers, she suddenly knows how and can execute perfectly 3) the character named Rainbird being "uniquely qualified" to capture Charlie, I assumed he would have some sort of water power. Nope, just psychic and a trained killer.

Other than that, I view those as minor flaws, it's a fine enough movie about super powers given by a drug test by a shady/evil drug company. Give it a chance, especially since its so short.
