Civil war is the worst situation you could imagine
Now the movie didn't tell too much about background of the war - but what it did tell - was the brutality of it. It can be brother against brother. As a Finnish watcher this badly brought memories of our own 1918 civil war, which divided the nation, only during 2WW we united again. In just three months, in a country of three million people back then, over 40 000 died. Mostly those that were defeated, were shot or either starved in camps, no mercy. US. Has had one civil war already, I'm sure the situation currently will not lead to another one. I'd rate the movie 8/10. But this is a bit demagogueish. The Posse Comitatus Act bars federal troops from participating in civilian law enforcement, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was nullified in time of need. I hope never to see this kind of situation in real life - there is still no real need.

    can't stand the little girl
The little girl is so annoying and stupid and she does absolutely nothing for the plot except screw everything up. She's the main reason i disliked the movie and ive never wanted to be in a movie so bad, not because its good but because i wanted to say curses to that girl and punch her in the gut for getting 4 people killed. I want to break her camera and spit on her face and take a picture of her as i kick her and spit on her over and over again. If you are interested in the movie, please be aware that the plot isn't great but its because the little girl made the plot not so great. Keep in mind she will make you heated in a way you've never been heated before so if you have anger issues, turn away from this movie.

Whilst it is true the war itself is largely in the background.....
Whilst it is true the war itself is largely shown in the background (apart from the final scenes), it raises important points about what a civil war entails, namely the seemingly senseless brutality that emerges when a nation implodes and families and friends turn on each other.

Also interesting how we see that the US, a country that has so often meddled in the affairs of foreign nations and pitted their peoples against each other for its own geopolitical interests, is this time itself torn apart. It didn't matter which side was "right" or which side was "wrong", just that something has happened which lead one side to revolt against the other (although the film summary claims that the government is "authoritarian").

The ending scenes were done extremely well. Reminded me somewhat of the Red Army storming the Reichs Chancellory in Berlin in 1945, or NVA troops doing similar in Saigon 30 years later.

    It's.... eh... good-ish?
An abstract hallucination of what a civil war in US might look like, not very precise neither politically nor militarily, it's hard to find anything particularly brilliant in this movie.

The plot is pretty weak, political explanation very dry and castrated, the intense moments don't last long enough, and what the protagonists are actually doing is totally nonsensical. No war journalist takes, or is allowed to take a position in assault formation, yet they somehow do and various assault groups spend half of the time grabbing their asses to pull them back. This is pretty... stupid.

But... in technological sense, this movie is exceptionally good. Top-notch cinematography, every scene and camera angle looks like a pearl, in motion, in color, in framing. So, it's a very-well made movie for sure.

There's also ton of action, from very first minutes straight to the last. So you can forget about main characters and just marvel at the beautifully orchestrated chaos on the screen.

Yeah, I'm probably going to watch it again sometime. But not for the characters or the plot.

As if photo journalism is still a thing
The good ol USA feeling sorry for itself in an unconvincing, contrived plot. Following a group of journalists taking still photos across the country during a civil war. No chracter development and no real reason for this story. We are expected to sympathise with changing emotions when none are shown to be more than skin deep. For what it's worth the acting is passable but the plot is too thin to be able to save this film. Complete and utter breakdowns in emotions are suddenly upon the characters for them to disappear as suddenly as they arrived as if dedication to their work is so ingrained they can just shrug it off. And who takes still photos these days?
