A brilliant twist, but a lot of viewers didn't get it.
Lots of people hated this movie and depending on how you understand how things work, that's understandable.

On the surface level, everyone picks up on killing your parents works to stop Grimcutty. Stabbing them works too. For many people, they think that's the point. That would be in line with the parents in the film that misunderstand it as teens doing a challenge. If that's their level of understanding, then the film won't make any sense to them.

The deeper level is that Grimcutty is an avatar for their parent's fears about their child. Stabbing works temporarily because the anger or pain distracts them from their fear. Only by facing fears does it work, thus the sedative to stop the main father from being afraid. Killing the parents works because it ends the parent's fear.

It's basically like the alien from the Star Trek episode with Jack the Ripper. Once you take away the emotion that it feeds off, it loses it's power. This also dovetails into the main character facing her fears and being actually chill now.

When the mom smashes the window. That might be some grimcutty makes sure someone gets cut thing. The key was that it acted as a distraction to slow the mom which short cuircited her hysteria. The movie made sense to me, but I understand how it could be confusing to some people.

The Plot Is As Flimsy As It Gets
This movie is flawed from the ground up. It starts with a bait and switch in that the first scene of the movie is the only redeeming part, and it immediately switches gears to introduce our "protagonists." The main characters are a set of older millennial parents, their Gen Z daughter, and another kid that doesn't actually do anything. The daughter Asha quit the track team so as punishment her parents make the family spend a night together every week without their phones, and apparently this was the worst thing to ever happen to Asha. The parents then learn of a "viral challenge" where kids see a picture of a creepy face and hurt themselves for clout. Never mind that none of the kids actually posted anything about this "challenge" and only heard about it from their parents... So it turns out that this creature is somehow linked to the parent's hysteria and the more freaked out they get the harder it comes after the kids. In typical horror movie fashion the parents don't believe the kids that something weird is going on, but the mom suddenly did a 180 for no reason and the movie ends because the dad injected morphine into his femur. The mass hysteria had gripped the entire town but as soon as the dad goes semi-conscious everything goes back to normal.

The entire movie is based around the premise that these parents who grew up with cellphones themselves don't understand internet memes and think that all the evils in the world stem from technology. You see the creature in the first scene so it builds no suspense and while I appreciate the use of practical effects, this Momo creepypasta looking thing was just atrocious. None of the characters act, talk, or even walk like real people. Skip this flaming pile of garbage and opt for something more enjoyable like slamming your hand in a door or sprinkling salt in your eyes.

    Oh no
I've seen all sorts of horror movies and got something that was advertised pretty widely, this one really takes the cake of one of the worst. The premise of a meme might have been good but it's like someone had that premise and then just vomited out a storyline and script in one night on the toilet.

Nothing makes sense and honestly, everything and everyone just is stupid. Even the Grimcutty itself is laughable. I know it's all about overbearing parents but even the parents are just so over the top that it's far from being believable. And I can't even start about the acting. Yet another bad horror movie for the books.

Seems like an AI wrote this movie
Only thing okay with this movie is its poster.

Story does not makes sense. The acting is terrible. The graphics are also not upto the mark.

Really frustrating to watch and make sense of whats going on at any moment. Character development is missing and at times the movie feels really really boring.

Pasting again to meet character limit: Only thing okay with this movie is its poster.

Bad paced teen drama without much horror
I had high expectations, seeing the art work and a short trailer. It looked interesting and it could have been a way to dive into some kind of old school horror flick, like Scream or The Ring or The Grudge etc.

Someone compared it with Candyman. Candyman is some kind of B-Movie, but it is well written. It knows, what it is and it's fun to watch.

Grimcutty is about distrustful parents and teens with puberty issues. That seems to be the latest thing, since the latest Flanagan series has it, too.

The main plot can be described as this: parents confiscate teen's phone and teen tries to get it back.

It could have been so much more!

    Great Concept.
The story concept is good, and the script is good. However something is off with the film. It doesn't hold together very well. The casting may be at fault. The ensemble of actors aren't in harmony with each other. Chemistry doesn't exist were it's needed. Character development is missing with the main family. Some actors are overacting and out of place for the story.

Believability in a film has to do with directing actors to moderate and influence their performances. It has to do with editing - choosing which takes to use. But ultimately you need the right actors for the narrative in the first instance to produce usable takes. The right actors will generate chemistry between each other.

Dear director, hire a better casting artist next time, or if the one you used is good, then you mustn't have listened to her. Whatever the cause, low budget limitations, or a half-assed attitude towards casting, the casting is bad here. If it was a budget issue, then you need to burn more midnight oil, work harder, and find a greater pool of actors to chose from.

ASMR is creepy and icky, and I'm buggered if I know why it's so popular. Though It sits well in this horror film. It adds to the scariness.
