    What light entertainment should be
A beefcake "retired" special forces soldier taking a pretty lady for a non-stop shootout ride-along in a fictional South American country of Val Verde? That's the plot of the 1985 Arnold movie - Commando.

The fictional country in this case is Paldonia, and this is really just a comedy remake of Commando (but Commando WAS a comedy, if you think about it).

This B movie is surprisingly fun. I did not expect to care about the characters' transformative journey throughout the movie, but I did. Even though not exactly Rain Man or The Holdovers, Freelance has what is very rare right now in modern movies - it has heart.

    Refreshing
Honestly, I don't get the low rating for this movie. Yes, on the surface it seems like a standard action movie with the usual bad guys, which usually you can see it coming from a mile away. But to me, this is one of the first movies where you'd expect the bad guy to be either the dictator or the company John Cena's working for. Neither is the case.

I went into the movie expecting the usual, however, my prejudice was quickly averted. In that sense, it is unique and interesting. I mean, it's not a masterpiece, but it did shine a light on how obvious 'plot twists' can be deterred and still make for a good movie. You might not like the actors or the fact that it's another high-paced action movie, but you have to give credit to the script. Also, Cena performed way better than I expected. My recommendation would be to see this movie on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

    Some reviews are so judgy...
I had a good time watching this movie. Sure, there are other movies out there that are so much better, but they are few and far between. I find that most films require one to suspend one's idea of reality and this one certainly did that. However, ultimately, even though I said, "Yeah, right," during this one a lot, I still had a really good time watching it. Cena is not a great actor, and Annie is mediocre too, but they did as well as most actors in the business. I thoroughly enjoyed Juan Pablo Raba, and the way he played his role. In fact, he made the movie worth watching. If you want some harmless fun, watch this. You won't get a face full of tits, and the violence is not over the top, but the romp is fun.
