nikitacpv - 25 February 2024 Excepted more I suppose I was a bit disappointed overall with this movie. The first moment Toby discovers Hector's secret, it takes a little while longer until we as viewers see what it is about. I suppose when the movie focuses more on Elisabeth, I was hoping to find out more. I think it was clear from the start what exactly happened but I was still somehow hoping for more.
One of my favorite moments from the movie is the interaction between Hector and the ''massage'' boy (forgot his name). That way you learn more about why he does what he does I reckon.
Overall it was a good thriller but I guess you could tell it is a BBC movie and it's nothing scary or gory.
eauzone - 9 July 2023 Cast and production rise above a tedious script Ok, the script wasn't horrible, but it's definitely the weakest element of an otherwise decent thriller. The cast give standout performances in this slick production of what amounts to London's answer to Stellan Skarsgard's Martin Vanger (from "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo")--a serial killer hiding in elite society.
To be fair, the dialog does offer the cast a few smart moments, but the storytelling is generally perfunctory, including a please-don't-make-the-floorboards-creak scene near the end (SPOILER: the floorboards creak.) Nevertheless, the cast and production values make it a fun watch, right up 'til the too-cheesy final shot.
Fella_shibby - 2 March 2023 Simple yet effective n unpredictable thriller. I saw this on Netflix last nite without watching the trailer or reading anything bah it.
I enjoyed this thriller n found it very captivating inspite of being very straight forward a la old skool style thriller. It has sufficient amount of suspense, solid character development without wasting unnecessary time, at times brutal without lingering on the gory or bloody aspect.
The performances are top notch n the direction excellent. Haven't seen much of the director's previous movies.
The best part is the unpredictability. Jus when u think that it is like Don't Breathe, u get a jolt.
The movie is very fast paced n keeps u engaged from the beginning till the end. In fact, i got angry when it ended cos i was totally engaged.
biloskata - 7 December 2022 A solid thriller This is a good film with well executed suspense but it missed some marks for me that could've made the film far better. The acting was good, cinematography solid, all the elements of a suspense thriller were there but some things have bothered me while watching.
First of all. Whose story are we even following? Who is the lead? So in the first part of the film it looks like Toby is going to be a protagonist. We get to witness his rocky relationship with his mom, his rebellion and he is the one who finds out Hector's secret. But then he is, I guess, killed off screen very early in the film.
That didn't bother me that much because his mother Liz then started to suspect Hector and investigate him so they made the audience believe that it's Liz who is going to bring Hector to justice and defeat him. But she gets caught in the easiest way and also get killed (I guess) off screen. That decision was a bit stupid for me.
Then Jay tries his shot at finding out the truth. So, he decides to follow Hector to his new house and from there I couldn't really understand what was his plan exactly? He came masked without any weapon and takes Hector's racket and they start fighting. That was weird since he didn't even get the answers from Hector about what had he done with Toby and Liz.
Then at the end of the film Jay finds the same guy that Toby found at the beginning of the film in a garage of Hector's house and calls the police. So, who was the guy? That is never explained. It is not that Ravi guy because Ravi would've been much older. And how did Hector even transport the guy from one house to another without him trying to escape or without anybody noticing? And why didn't Hector kill that guy since he killed Toby, Iranian guy and Liz? What use is that guy to Hector? Also, Jay didn't get the answer at the end. He didn't get anything. There are no evidence that Hector killed Toby and Liz that police can find. The house that he commited those crimes in is empty and sold and he got rid of the physical evidence. If you are a police officer there is literally no concrete evidence agaist him unless he confesses.
Also, as a crime story enthusiast, I love to see some back story of the criminals to make us see why and how did they become like that. We get none of that in the film. We only find out a little bit of Hector's childhood in three minutes of the film.
So, to conclude. It is a good film but these things made it harder to really appreciate it and made it a little bit confusing. The 'I came by' graffiti at the end by Jay was a nice touch though but there are a lot of unanswered questions left.
gabriel_sanchez - 30 October 2022 Stephen King recommended the movie, and so do I I Came By is a good thriller with an interesting story and a chilling development. In the best untouchable villain style, I Came By holds us until the last moment, delivering a natural and deserved ending.
In I Came By, Toby, a graffiti artist, thinks he's some kind of underworld vigilante, a clean-handed vigilante. His mission is to graffiti the homes of wealthy elitists in favor of the underprivileged, always with the phrase "I came by." In one of these endeavors, Toby discovers a terrible secret.
The film maintains suspense throughout its plot. It advances naturally and plausibly. Things feel real, as they should always be.
Recommended for anyone who likes thrillers.
sbweightman - 3 October 2022 Some tension and mystery, but sort of fizzles out in the second half. Initially about modern social justice warriors trying to right the wrongs of the world through graffiti, the film takes a darker and more sinister turn as it explores how the rich and powerful can get away with almost anything. Good acting and some tension and mystery, but it sort of fizzles out in the second half before righting itself in time for the ending. It doesn't really look at why the disillusioned youth have a grudge against the white elite, other than they do, and most of the other plot beats are functional, but nothing new. Entertaining enough and it held my interest, but could have been so much more.
