14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible

14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible

In 2019, Nepalese mountain climber Nirmal “Nims” Purja set out to do the unthinkable by climbing the world’s fourteen highest summits in less than seven months. (The previous record was eight years). He called the effort “Project Possible 14/7” and saw it as a way to inspire others to strive for greater heights in any pursuit. The film follows his team as they seek to defy naysayers and push the limits of human endurance.

    Superb mountaineering feat but...
No doubt, Nimsdai is one of the most dedicated, passionate, and motivated mountainclimbers.

The movie is inspirational, but not to the direction which Nimsdai wanted the viewers to get inspired about. He asserted at the start that Project Possible aims to highlight the achievements and contributions of the Sherpas... and give names to these unknown 'ghosts' in every Westerner successful Himalayan climbs.

Nimsdai was successful in summitting the 14 peaks, a big inspiring yes! But he was not successful in 'un-ghosting' those ghosts! At least for me, he failed big time in giving those Sherpas the 'proper name and recognitions'. I felt, "just as like the Westerner climbers", he just somehow used the Sherpas to make the impossible possible. That would be a great theme to convince potential financers to fund his Project, wouldn't it?

The documovie was largely about self-promotion and narcissism. He wants to project that he is a superhero, the GOAT, in the mountaineering world. He even called himself in the film "the Usain Bolt of mountain climbing"!

The most disappointing bit for me was towards the end of the film, after summitting the 14th peak, when he faced the mediamen... "If this was done by a European or Western climber, the news would have been ten times bigger than this... and you guys have the power". This very words of Nimsdai just substantiated my initial thoughts about him. Climbing the 14 peaks is a great feat. It will speak for itself!

I checked Wikipedia after finishing the film, and found in the Nationality section, that Nimsdai is "formerly Nepalese, now British". That says a lot.

Well-made documentary of another Real-life Superhero!
I appreciate the makers of this documentary. The directing, scripting, editing, bg music etc. Everything went perfect for the documentary. They presented the story how it was supposed to be presented. & of course, the protagonist himself is the hero of the film, both behind and in front of the screen. Very inspiring!!

    Awesome
This is one of my favorite documentaries. It's the story of "Project Possible", where a team of Nepalese mountaineers led by Nims Purja summited all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks in a little over 6 months. The courage and physical and mental grit that this effort required are immense. If you're interested in mountaineering or what it takes to fulfill your dreams, even if they seem totally impossible, this is not to be missed. Go humans!
