deadbull-95171 - 26 April 2024 Why is this movie so beloved? I avoided it until tonight and made it to the big haunted house scene 2/3 of the way in before I hung it up. This was supposed to be a really creepy scary movie. How can something as ridiculous as this be scary? An ensemble of "child actors" cowering from a ludicrous clown, some jump scares; "ominous" music to build tension while you wait for a clown head to pop out of the dark.... It is just trivial and silly. A super-soft-core replay of Nightmare on Elm Street, which was anchored with some sub-clinical adult themes, but this is aimed at Kindergarden kids, who would perceive these children as adults. With almost ANY movie,if you turn the sound off and just watch actors act, moving through their carefully composed sets, the whole thing becomes a phony puppet show in a frame. In this case, the sound doesn't change that impression: I might as well have been the cameraman, concentrating on framing shots.
The last horror movie I saw that qualified as creepy was the first Sinister. Everything about it, even it's supernatural elements, were effective. The Dark and the Wicked, not as good as Sinister, had some moments too. The Exorcist, in 1973, had some startling moments; Psycho, given some of the highest ratings of them all, being a type of "first", in the manner of Elvis Presley, made an impression on me when I went to see it at the age of eight, but so did Straight Jacket at the age of 12. Now these artifacts have been demoted to merely having some historic interest. There was a certain corner of the movie house we sat in, a dark old theatre, with tiny purple lamps fluorescing above the exits, a bag of hot (real) buttered popcorn was 5 cents; We wanted to get creeped out; and those old pictures I saw as a child in the dark corner were magically scary. But Psycho now...63 years later...any daily news broadcast, the price of groceries, the USA, (for people who aren't Billionaires, is a lot more disturbing. Que Sera, Sera.
jdmhwzg - 17 January 2024 One of the best remakes Sometimes remakes suck but it's safe to say the original IT wasn't very good. It made many people afraid of clowns and this remake focus on that too but makes it so much better. Bill Skarskård makes excellent job playing Pennywise. Many times the monster becomes less scary the more you see it - IT is an exception with this. The clown itself is absolutely terrifying every time.
Storyline is interesting but classic. Losers become are hated but try to save the day. The possibility for sequel is slided intelligently to the story. This movie is easy to follow and watch except the scary scenes. Many horror films are boring outside intimidating scenes but this is not.
Main characters in horror movies are not usually children which is personal choice - done originally of course by Stephen King who uses child characters a bit more. Some of the charcters feel irrelevant in the movie though.
This movie doesn't explain too much but leaves the audience satisfied and maybe yearning for more. I watched this originally in the movies and was scared years after this. Balloons and carnevals? No thanks.
ccaltoncarlson - 22 October 2023 Another Stephen King twisted Kitty torture movie mixed with some religion. Growing up my best friend loved Stephen King, in hindsight I believe he likes Stephen King because he wrote big long horror books some of which were decent carrie, Christine. But watching it and other Stephen King movies more recently I wonder if he suffered a head injury we need to hit by a car because he seems to focus on harming children mixed with some sexual perversion like a young girl getting her first menstrual cycle and she's also her father's sexual plaything apparently now is that part of the horror movie because the clown and the other characters that torment these children are quite enough without a child molester. I think what bothers me most if he mixes in religion quite often in the way that's supposed to prove a point on his side or on the story and I don't like it because it's gross in the context of these movies and I don't believe for a second or religious person for a follower of Jesus like many of us who was the ultimate kind caring shelter the people who need sheltered and comfort those who need comfort protect those who need protection instead he victimizes these children this these movies I mean it's disgusting and I seen enough of it done by police and other authorities in this country without having to call it entertainment like Stephen King so I wish Stephen King would go away also I wish his son would go away because in my world because your dad writes popular books doesn't mean you will or can. I will say however I think a major draw to him is his name Stephen King he is king of nothing not horror not writing you right enormously long books dad I guess that are disgusting and find him to be a deplorable man and his movies are mostly gross.
jeromesgabilo - 3 October 2022 HORROR FOR YOUNGER AUDIENCES Just the right amount of horror and occasional comedy. This horror-adaptation was justifiably one of the best horror movies of 2017. From the production design to editing, no unnecessary scenes were featured throughout the entire film. The cinematography was good. The actors' performances were on-point and the direction was straight to the point. I just wonder if the movie could have been greater. The scenes were amazing, the jumpscares were efficient, but as the movie progressed, there was something mediocre in the film I cannot quite figure out. Maybe it was the story or the plotholes. But over-all it was decent clown-horror flick.
frostytheth - 6 August 2022 I recommend this movie 100% This movie has an amazing plot, with the acting pulling it all together. The horror aspect was spot on for what it was aiming for. Clowns scare lots of people but it also has some characters that can scare anyone really. The storyline ends but will come back in a second movie!
