Great reminder - Covid was bonkers!
This movie was actually pretty well done as far telling the story of the Gamestop fiasco - one that I was unaware of until it crashed and burned. What I will say is this movie also is a good reminder of the idiocy of the policies during Covid. The joke of an obsession of wearing a masks (even alone) - the zoom congressional hearings and how unqualified a majority of our congressmen are at these hearings. I will say the movie does a poor job in depicting the people at hand. The rich and wealthy are not the idiots like this movie portraits - yes Seth Rogan is great at playing an idiot. If anything the college kids were stupid in grasping the "hold the line" concept screwing many out of tens of thousands of $$. Everyone could have had a piece of the pie but trying to stick it to the man - who they all knew would bailed out - was a idiotic. There is a reason the wealthy investors stay wealthy and the robin hood traders struggle - you cannot mix risk and emotion or you will get burned.

    Capitalism at it's Finest
Dumb Money. Yet another recent major studio film that begs the question: "who approved such a terrible movie?". It boggles the mind how major studios seem to have the least creative, least capable writers and editors while having unlimited funds. We live in an unfortunate world of modern creation that is punctuated by mass media art being controlled by capitalists who have no interest in creating something special, just something that makes easy, Dumb Money. How ironic.

While this "comedy" took about 40 minutes to deliver its first slight giggle, that wasn't even the most egregious misstep. I cannot understand how any human being could have watched the final draft of this film and not been taken aback by the absolutely terrible sound design, comparable only to Tenet. The volume of the music in this was effectively double, at least, of the dialogue. There are moments where both the music and dialogue occur simultaneously, and the words are inaudible. It comes off as extremely unprofessional, like some kid's first film project in 10th grade. You'll be grabbing the remote and slamming those volume buttons constantly.

And by god, this has to have had some of the absolute worst writing I've come across in a film. So incredibly dull. So shallow. Seemingly lacking in forethought. It feels like this was written by AI.

I was excited when a film about the Gamestop stock situation came out. While I wasn't invested financially in the situation, I found it absolutely compelling to follow in real time. But this film is terrible. It's just bad. It starts with the writing and ends with the editing. It's shocking that this could have been made. It shocking that no one, at any point in the process thought this was anything but absolute trash. Then again, I've thought that about so many recent films that it may just be the industry as a whole that has a problem. Realistically, if a studio puts out a rushed script about a compelling topic with a story that already has a built-in audience and attaches some big names to it, it's an automatic money maker, and it doesn't matter how bad it is. These are the only films that are getting invested in because it's easy money. Nothing destroys creativity in artistic industries like capitalism. Congratulations, major studios. You made yourself some Dumb Money.

When my dad was young, he says, there was a store . . .
. . . Up North called something like "Shop Coo." He used to do all of his Christmas shopping there and at Whoopee Bowl. Dad always contended that if you could not find something at either Shop Coo or Whoopee Bowl, it probably did not exist. Shop Coo was famous for its Green Light Specials, which were later ripped off by K-Mart. But whether the light was green or red, at Shop Coo it was always full speed ahead. Then some Wall Street Vampires sank their fangs into Shop Coo, vacuumed out all the assets and shuttered it without due notice, as described during DUMB MONEY. Workers lost their jobs, retirees their pensions and shoppers the only big box store in town. Local suicide rates surged, many families starved and social services were overwhelmed. Perhaps out of sympathy, the Whoopee Bowl expired around the same time. This is why our next President must ban all corporations and stock markets on Day One in 2025!
