Tense Cold War fueled space station drama
I. S. S is a tense drama aboard the International Space Station. That is about the extent of it being a sci-fi film. But, what it does well is portray the paranoia of the Cold War in today's sense of Conservative and Liberal animosity as portrayed in Nationality.
A scientist arrives at the I. S. S. For her first space experience as she requires zero gravity for her research. On board are two more Americans and three Russians. As they acclimate her to the station, a catastrophe occurs on Earth, observable from the station.
What unfolds is a study in paranoia as no one is certain what is happening on Earth, and the only messages from the base are unclear of details but suggestive enough to fuel the paranoia further.
Ariana DeBose excels as the lead actor. She displays the complexity of her character and how this affects her reactions and hesitations to what is unfolding in the station. In most action movies, this isn't often portrayed, and here it is a necessity given the limit cast and location.
Forget this as a sci-fi film, a disaster film, or anything other than a Cold War drama. There are thriller elements to it. And the analogy speaks heavily to the rise of Nationalism, xenophobia, Conservatism, and hatred that is devastating the world right now. - Pairic - 6 May 2024
Satellite of Mistrust
I. S. S.: In space aboard the International Space Station while a nuclear war rages below on Earth. The film opens with 2 US astronauts arriving at the ISS, one of them is a rookie astronaut, Kira . We see her adjusting to life onboard, dealing with liquids, free fall, dealing with her experimental mice. Six crew in total, three US, three Russian. Kira is in the cupola when she sees flashes on Earth, thinking at first they are volcanic eruptions but another astronaut realises what is happening and seals off the cupola to prevent Electromagnetic Pulse damage. The ISS had dipped to a lower orbit to receive a supply rocket and now cannot re-boost to higher orbit putting it at risk of burning up on re-entry in 24 hours. Before all communications with Earth is lost both the Russians and Americans are ordered to seize control of the ISS. Co-operation rather than conflict is the norm aboard the ISS but this fragile peace starts to break down. Close quarters combat in zero gravity is not easy even for Military veterans especially when you're all struggling to stay alive. The dangers of spacewalks, surprising collaborations, there are more than two sides in the antagonism in this tin can in the sky. A satellite whose corridors are roomy enough for pursuit and hiding. Storyline With Massive Potential
I'm going out on a long limb here, and actually reviewing a picture that I have not personally seen yet. And I STRESS the yet part!! I saw a commercial for this picture somewhere online a while ago. When the narrator told the viewer what was happening, I was...how do I say it???...INCENSED!! What a chance to make one awesome picture!! Like the saying goes...The Possibilities are Endless. I read some of the reviews here and couldn't believe it. Most were saying that "this couldn't happen" or like "physics don't work that way" Well, no s**t Sherlock, were'd you get your squad car"?? Does everyone think that movies are handcuffed to reality?? HA HA HA Anyway, I can't wait to see this one. As always...Thanks and ENJOY!!!
