    Stunningly bad
Take Apt Pupil (another King movie) and remove the horror, suspense, and fresh ideas, and what remains is this film. Netflix marketed it as suspense, but there is none, and I can't fathom why anyone would find this movie deep. It's just Uncle Grandpa complaining about technology, before it's exhaustively explained by the kid who lives to read to him, who is then vaguely haunted by his presence, without demonstrating any curiosity to investigate anomalies. Every element of the backdrop recalls the 1950s, except for the presence of phones, which are also used basically 1950s style. For example, the kids with iphones sit at the "iphone table" while his friends cheer on this technology accomplishment. There is literally a Sadie Hawkins' Day dance. Most baffling, despite the weirdness of talking to himself after his wealthy benefactor dies, the kid never wonders if maybe he's killing people. By the time this movie is put out of its misery, I wonder what movies weren't made so Netflix could make yet another one with Stephen King's name attached.
