Turned up the speed in this sequel
After the first film of the franchise we could see that there was definitely a lot of things done right with the original but also a lot more they could expand on. This follow up is most definitely more enjoyable and highly entertaining. It feels very much more in tuned with the video games. We can see more similarities in this follow up to the video games as opposed to the original film. First with the introduction to beloved characters of Tails and Knuckles (surprisingly greatly voiced by Idris Elba). The finale action sequence are top notch with the inclusion of the giant robot form from Dr. Robotnik. This design was really well done.

Although they could have toned down on the childish comedy humor but it's expected given the family nature audience. Overall this follow-up was entertaining, more keyed in on detailed to the games, and much more focus on Sonic than on James Marsden's character (opposite of the original). Anticipating the third film.

    A bit too long
I kinda enjoyed watching this movie, but there were moments where movie was dragging on for far too long....

Dr Robotnik is still the best thing in the movie, his body language and gestures are top notch. I feel like Jim Carry carries the whole movie.

CGI is feels good but there are scenes where Its inconsistent.

Most noticeable example would be Tails. Most of the scenes there seems to be something wrong with his lighting.

The humor is hit or miss. I found wedding plot to be very silly and sort of irrelevant. Things happen there because script said "We need to introduce *INSERT NAME* "

Movie Itself is far longer than necessary... you'll notice this while watching It.

    Wedding absolutely broke this movie
Wow this film was great for both movie fans and Sonic fans. The action was fast paced and was visually impressive, the score was great with many callbacks to the games and the overall story with surrounding Knuckles and Sonic was very investing. This is easily should have been an 8 maybe even a 9/10 at a push...if it wasn't for the wedding sequence.

Guys...what were you doing? Why did they focus on a bunch of human side character who I have no interest with at all. They weren't present in the entire movie (other than for a couple of scenes just to show that they exist) and then all of a sudden it's the whole focus of the movie. They made it into some cliche boring comedy spy espionage that just came out of complete nowhere with a betrayal type twist which nobody cared about. Seriously this whole scene was like 15 minutes why am I sat here??

Also just a small nitpick, the dance scene was really overstayed it's welcome. Like it's kinda cute and its an easy way to show Sonic and Tails getting closer but oof it was a rough cringe fest.

Anyways, regardless of these few issues the movie still slaps. The adaptation of the games into real life was done so well especially with making Knuckles a much more serious and sympathetic character. I actually cared for Sonic, Tails and Knuckles which I honestly did not expect going into this. 7/10 but, again, could have been higher if not for the wedding scene.

    On par with the first
I'm astonished that they managed to knock out another film in such quick succession, but then there's no accounting for taste or popularity. This is exactly on par with the first one, a stupid, flatulent and headache-inducing mess of a film that's been made by kids, for kids, by the look of it. There are new allies, new villains and another meandering story about Sonic having to 'grow up' while he battles the evil Robotnik. I actually like Jim Carrey in these films, he gives the right pantomime performance, but the rest is just a mess, particularly the voices emanating from these CGI abominations.

    He said the thing.
'Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (2022)' trades Tom Wachowski for Miles 'Tails' Prower, putting its eponymous blue blur in league with the twin-tailed tech-whiz while it sticks the donut lord in a bizarrely drawn-out background plot involving a bride, a betrayal and a bunch of bulked-up beach bods. Although this brings things closer to their video-game counterparts, it undeniably removes a key component of the first flick's success. It also contributes heavily to the seriously strange pacing that the piece finds itself plagued with, as the aforementioned wedding eventually springs to the foreground and practically hijacks the entire affair for what seems like an eternity of hedgehog-less antics involving the admittedly charming human cast. Thankfully, the first feature's second secret weapon doesn't have his hands tied behind his back with a Hawaii-set subplot. The maniacal moustachioed Eggman is back in all his bald-headed, bushy-lipped, Stone-simped glory. Played to perfection by walking cartoon Jim Carrey, the arrogant antagonist chews every bit of available scenery on his quest to crush Sonic and obtain the power-giving Chaos Emerald. Joined by a much more restrained Knuckles (who's basically a short red version of Drax from 'Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014)'), the good doctor schemes, dances and eyebrow raises his way across multiple continents and clashes with our heroes in a few relatively entertaining action sequences. Whether they involve makeshift snowboards, iconic bi-planes, gigantic robots or faithful recreations of labyrinthine levels (complete with stressful underwater segments), the majority of these scenes are appropriately energetic and visually appealing (the effects are markedly good throughout). The action is relatively generic and doesn't exactly pull you to the edge of your seat, but it does the job and does it fairly well. The same can't be said about a dance-off set to the soul-scraping tune of Uptown Funk, but thankfully this is about as cringe as the film ever gets. A lot of the humour doesn't land, but not much of it falls flat on its face. It has a few genuine chuckles sprinkled throughout and it's generally charming, too. The movie's second half is actually much better than its first. Though its opening movement is honestly pretty dull after its cold open, the picture eventually settles into itself and starts to get much more entertaining as it approaches its bombastic finale. As it moves towards this ending, it threatens to jump the shark by getting too big for its own good and dumping Dr. Robotnik's perfectly imperfect personality. However, it manages to pull back just before it hits the ramp - primarily by making sure the baddie's new bits and bobs don't take away from his overtly evil aesthetic and larger-than-life performance. Ultimately, this is a predictable and safe sequel (the most surprising part of it is its extended wedding sequence) that does what it needs to and does it fairly well. It's fun enough for what it is, but it isn't as good as its unexpectedly successful predecessor. Still, fans of the first will likely like this. It's a solid effort.
