yusufxhacioglu - 3 June 2024 Kept me busy but not impressed I watched quite a few "scary" movies and some of them were good, really. But I don't think this movie is one of them. I'm not sure if I expect too much but I do expect that thriller-horror movies have some kind of reality in them. Especially if they are about a serial killer and not some supernatural ghosts. Let me elaborate this:
First thing that stands out the most is that no one is ever around except the killer and the victim when the action begins. Not talking about private houses or so, but there is a whole scene where the killer chases a girl in a hospital, which has only three people in it (one is the killer, on is the DEAD policeman and the other is the victim). Seriously, which hospital has only ONE patient in the middle of the day and no guards, giving that a killer wanders around the town???
The other thing is there is a lot of screaming, chasing in the public (for exp. A party full of people) but suddenly everyone disappears when the killer shows up. He/she does the job, leaves or kills the victim and everyone magically respawns to their latest positions. Or they stand there the whole time but "unfortunately" can't hear the sounds of the dying man's struggle. Like, how and why???
My list continues but I just can't handle writing anymore. I hope I made my point and I know I may be overthinking but it really does effect the joy I want to aquire while watching the movie.
If I have to add something positive, I liked the visiual quality and storyline kept me in front of the screen.
hallkairyan - 10 April 2024 Very Overhated: Meta Meticulously Scream (2022) is an excellent title in the ever lasting scream franchise. To begin, the title several complaints have been raised over its identical name to the 1996 film. However it is clearly a play on the horror genre as every Scream movie has addressed the state of the ever changing genre in this movie covering requals which is the subject for its name. Now away from that "Scream (2022)" is an excellent continuation of the Wes Craven movies not just by reinforcing legacy character like Neve Campbell's "Sydeny Prescott" & Courtney Cox's "Gale Weathers" but also introducing the newer townspeople cast of Woodsboro. These new well developed characters like Jenna Ortega's "Tara Carpenter" lead us perfectly into "Scream VI" which played out a well driven plot as a result of there development in this movie. This movie although a direct continuation of the past movies this film feels like a reboot of the plot. The 3rd act brings on an excellent twist relating to "Scream (1996)".
Playing on the requel development in horror "Scream (2022)" makes another return to Woodsboro. Featuring new and old this movie is an excellent play on the franchise going back to the original formula as the Slasher keeps the bodies flowing as ghostface ravages.
8/10.
anthonysoik - 18 January 2024 So stupid. How does Tara get stabbed so many times and live? Before the opening credits the killer raises their hand implying a final blow and the next sentence is like "oh Tara is alive". These main characters are insufferable. It's not the only time a character is morally wounded and lives however.
Sam's character is so bland but I think the actress might just be terrible at acting. She cannot deliver a line at all.
Poor Jack Quaid got roped into this trash film. These characters act like the 'cringe redditor character' that people make fun of all the time.
I'm so sick of the exposition they insist on doing in these movies, you are going to hear "are you telling me..." "So you're saying...." It's so stupid. If we've seen the first 4 movies we don't need them explained again in every sequel.
Also bringing Billy Loomis back as a hallucination but he clearly looks 25 years older was pretty funny.
2/10 because I watched it still.
ashleecampbell - 3 January 2023 Worst one yet.. No, no, no...
I wanted to like this movie I really did but it's a no from me.
This movie missed Wes, it just doesn't have the magic that he created.
I didn't like the kills, the fire part was crap.. They're meant to be slashed with the knife, isn't that the whole Scream thing? Then they shoot whoever to make sure they're dead? Idk maybe I'm wrong. Don't even get me started about Dewey!
The original Scream to me, is a masterpiece. All of the others I think have their own charm that I like. This was lacking that.
If you're a Scream fan, do yourself a favour and stop at 4 and make that the ending for you.. Just like with SATC, to me that ended when the series did.
I have loved Skeet since I saw the original Scream when I was 9 so I was SO excited he was back.. and tbh that was the only good part, seeing Billy. If I was just rating Billy being back I'd give it 10/10!
On another note, Skeet and Matthew need to do a project together.
jasonpauljones-64690 - 22 December 2022 The opening sequences are a scream So here we have the very latest and not so greatest Scream venture. Great to see old characters again even if Courtney Cox's surgically hacked face frightened me more than Ghostie. Neve Campbell goes well here as the original Sidney and I am a bit of a fan of Melissa Barrera who is the amiable central character here. There's a few shocks and surprises in this too that work well, however the editing and production is disjointed and things at times don't make much sense. The script also is very cliche and puts a dent in the effectiveness of the overall picture. This would have been far more suited to a horror if the corny comedy was left out and concentrated on the slash and burn. Afterall, this is not Scary Movie, not a comedic spinoff of any sort. At least it's not supposed to be. The kills are entertaining though and there's just enough gore to keep it worth watching for the most part.
Wilko52 - 17 November 2022 Terrible, absolutely terrible. This film takes place in the most deserted town in America; someone gets killed in broad daylight after a sheriff's car turns up with sirens blaring and lights blazing, and there's no one on the street to see it. No one appears to work in the hospital overnight, leaving the killer to roam free and do what killers do.
One of the killers is obvious from the start, despite the attempts at misdirection, and the other couldn't act her way out of a paper bag; the third act is particularly hilarious as they try to act psycho.
Worst of all is the dedication to Wes Craven at the end; if an energy company wired up his coffin to the grid, they'd solve the world's energy crisis due to the amount of spinning he'll be doing.

CinemaClown - 10 October 2022 A Worthy Sequel That Celebrates All Things Scream A welcome tribute to Wes Craven's lasting influence & a thrilling addition to the saga that stays true to the franchise formula instead of venturing too far from the course, the fifth instalment in the Scream series exhibits a neat balance between the horror, comedy & mystery elements and makes for a consistently fun, amusing & entertaining slasher full of shocks, surprises & satirical takedowns.
Directed by Radio Silence (Ready or Not), the story not only serves as a continuation of what's transpired before but also tries to carve its own fresh pathway headed into the future with new characters. But they are rather one-note with uninteresting arcs and need the reprising cast to keep us invested. Still, the new filmmakers showcase a fine understanding of the franchise and manage to get several things right.
As before, the film embraces & parodies horror clichés & conventions, this time going after the reboots, remakes & requels while also taking a stab at those who use the term elevated horror. Performances from Neve Campbell, David Arquette & Courteney Cox are impressive as always while the new cast is more or less serviceable. It also has one more legacy character returning but it's lazily thought of and isn't properly executed.
Overall, Scream 5 is a worthy sequel that celebrates all things Scream in its own gleeful manner while honouring the influential artist responsible for its enduring legacy & relevance. And even if the film doesn't measure up to the original's creative vision, clever writing & cinematic ingenuity, it still gets the foreboding aura, violent kills, self-awareness, wicked twists & subversive delights right to deliver a satisfying follow-up that will please the fandom.
