    Long prologue to start PS2
The story of the Chola dynasty, carefully crafted by Maniratnam, takes too much time to make viewers understand what Maniratnam is trying to achieve. In a way, PS1 is not just a movie; it's a foreshadowing of what is going to happen in PS2. Also you keep on wondering whether there was another way to introduce the character and archs.

Aishwarya's character, Nandini, steals the show throughout the movie. Her personified beauty and her moves, as if she is playing chess, show how much Maniratnam has respected the female character. Trisha, as Kundavai, is also given a very strong character. In this story, they are not mere props; they are at the forefront of the story.

The story is presented through the lens of the spy Karthi, showing that every character has flaws, making it difficult for viewers to decide whom to support. An interesting premise has been developed. Now, I am going to start watching part 2.

Too boring, unnecessary stretching the story
Initial plot itself feels like it would be a sad story, but when story progressed then some twists and turns appears but those were unnecessary for a movie. If it was a based on true story then somehow it would be bearable but illogical twist and complexity just to strearch movie is making this movie so boring. At some point I felt like , don't tell me who is who's . What relation they have.

Instead of that they could have make it little shorter movie and tried to add some entertainment. Afterall it's a commercial movie and not theatrical movie.

What a disaster movie by a great director Mani Ratnam.

    Just awesome
I gave this movie a 10 for the writing, set, and everything this movie had. The people complaining about it have serious issues since the movie in and itself was really good. I didn't read the novel but i can say this very well that the history along with fiction was put very aptly.

The characters were well placed, the actors did a fine Job, I know Karthi as a comedy hero but he didn't let his image come across him as he was able to switch well from comic to action hero really quick. The only thing i didn't like was how Karthi's character was a little to gullible for a future army commander. This i felt with all male protagonists here, all of these characters lacked political mindset and for Raja Raja Chola, I don't think he would have lacked that, Karikalan may not have it but the character of PS was built to be calm and composed.

Thats all i think should be improved.

Others elements were well placed and well executed.

Music was wow, so please don't complain that AR didn't do good. It was pretty good for a Historic fiction, it had to give the vibe and it gave it.

    One time watch
I did have to google to understand the actual plot. Essentially the chola dynasty story said through a character who is the prince's messenger. About how some of the leaders is trying to overthrow the emperor and make his elder brothers son the heir. Aishwarya Rai and Aishwarya Lekshmi were very good. Karthi is pretty average in his performance. Music was also average. Compared to RRR the choice of actors and background music is average in this one. There is the plots for a second part laid out, and that does seem exciting, so it's good that the story ended with a suspense to be revealed in the next part in terms of the character who keeps saving the young prince. Jayam Ravi is awesome.

Exceptional for Thamizh.. Ok Ok for Others..
Yes as my head line reads.. We are born and brought up with the history on our ears with greatness of Thanjai Periya Kovil & Cholas.. And its usual to get goose bumps on most of the scenes on theatres.. Having said that we understand others outside TN, may not find this as great as we look at.. Because as I said above we have been raised with the history of Chola Dynasty.

With reference to book from Amarar Kalki.

I believe the below are missing
    • the beautifully written romance between Pooni & Vanathi // Vallavarayan & Kundavai
    • No mention on Arisalaru river. Kalki quotes in his book that there is no words to match the natural beauty of Arisalaru river
    • War scenes in detail.
