The extraordinary true story of eccentric British artist Louis Wain, whose playful, sometimes even psychedelic pictures helped to transform the public's perception of cats forever.
jaymancer - 15 November 2023 A tale worth telling.. My score would have been higher for a charming tale of a troubled soul. Who knew an illustrator from the 19th century completely changed societies perception of felines?
But yet again the casting director doesn't own a history book and therein hasn't a clue about the demographic populas of Victorian England. But ignore the glaring inaccuracies of an individuals depiction of a place and time, and you'll enjoy this quirky eccentric tale that was well worth telling.
Cumberbatch his usual 'Cumberbatch..but Foy is the stand out.
Rewrite history to those who KNOW their history, and it jars and detracts from an overwise lovely tale.
carolynwills - 27 February 2023 Great story This is a beautiful tale told so well, it's an emotional journey which brought me to tears a few times. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the part of Wain with such tenderness, he captures the obvious turmoil he faced, so well.
The cinematography is a joy and being a cat lover myself the addition of so many cats was wonderful.
Claire Foy plays her part so well, they both have such eccentricities and play their parts perfectly
I thought they captured the period well and it really shows how hard life was then
I'm glad I watched this and if you love a period drama with gritty realism then I highly recommend.
katerina_keit - 5 September 2022 Incredible! I absolutely loved it! I don't know how this film hadn't come to my attention until now, but I would recommend this film to anyone! Benedict Cumberbatch is incredible in it (as always), Claire Foy as well (as always) and it has the story of a genius albeit terribly tormented by schizophrenia artist, and cats! What more could anyone want? The chemistry between BC and CF is amazing (could not get enough of their scenes together) and the drama around the whole movie brought me to tears more than once. In addition, the rest of the cast is amazing too! All in all, I believe that it is an incredible biographical film! ππΌππΌππΌ
jeroduptown - 14 June 2022 I See Cats Cumberbatch is solid - there's no denying. But Wain, electricity and mostly the cats....all the dang cats...it was beautifully nuts. A solid historical drama with a side of mental illness.
