Feels like Taika exaggerated way too much.
Thor: Love and Thunder has no Love and no Thunder to talk about. It's difficult to even begin, but let's do this.

I returned home from the theater (july 2022), trying to make sense of what I had just seen. Right out of the gate, I will say this is not the worst MCU movie to date. Dark World and even the atrocious Antman movies are below. I'd say it's a tie with Black Window. Another unnecessary movie that lost its way. It's 4 out of 10, and I'm being generous.

To be fair, the visuals and the soundtrack are actually very good. The production value is the one good thing that didn't make this journey unbearable. The general idea of the plot is also nothing to sneeze at. But my summary is: Taika Waititi is a genius. He can make gold with whatever garbage they throw at him. He proved himself by reviving Thor after the disastrous Dark World into the cool Ragnarok.

They asked him to perform the same miracle, unrestrained. And I think this happens if you leave Taika unchecked: he tries everything and cuts nothing. And the thing this movie needed the most was better editing, especially cutting a lot of things off.

Korg was great in Ragnarok. Because it was a very minor part. The comical relief was used very sparingly, and it worked. Now they turned the notch up to 11, and it's too much Korg. The joke of Asgardians of the Galaxy at the epilogue of Endgame was great. But again, Love and Thunder take too damn long lingering on this Guardians joke.

The first section of the movie, closing up the Endgame joke, took too damn long. It could be dealt with in a very fast 5 minutes montage. But Taika liked the joke so much that he overdid it. And then you have the conflict between the tone the director wanted and the tone that the plot required. The director clearly wanted a light-hearted Ragnarok 2-like style. The plot of Gorr is a very tragic, dark, and serious storyline. If the Guardians section took too damn long, the Gorr introduction was too damn short.

He's a great villain, but we see a short montage of him losing his daughter and just making an exposition dump with God Rapu. Show, don't tell. He gets the necrosword out of nowhere and from there becomes the so-called God Butcher. But it's too short. I would have cut most of the Guardians scenes down to 5 minutes and increased the Gorr introduction by at least 10 minutes because it seems much more interesting and relevant to this movie.

Another carried over consequence from the other movie: the New Asgard city turned tourism attraction and the Matt Damon theater that was a short joke in Ragnarok. It had a context before because it was another Loki shenanigan. But here, it was just a very long exposition section for the broken Mjolnir arc. But it breaks the meme. It was fun back then because if you didn't pay attention, you'd miss that the actors were Matt Damon and Hemsworth's brother. But here, they made their roles take more time with close-ups. And this breaks the meme aspect and incorporates them as actual scenes for this movie. And it doesn't work. This is the classic taking the joke too seriously.

You could've made a more dramatic flashback montage with Hella herself breaking Mjolnir, taking far less time. And on the note of New Asgard. The Valkyrie was a great addition to Ragnarok, and she had a role to play there. But since then, they have no idea what to do with her. And here again, she did absolutely nothing. They could have just cut her, and the story wouldn't have unfolded differently. We already have Korg for comic relief; now they added Valkyrie as another comic relief. There's too much comic relief in this movie.

Then there's Jane Foster's arc inspired by the cancer thing from the comics. And that's fine. But there's a big MCU problem here. My girlfriend pointed it out in the theater: what about Wakanda? What about the other gods? The world post-Thanos has Wakanda. Shuri was able to make surgery and take a bullet off the spine of that Shield's agent (I forgot his character name, but it's the Hobbit guy) like it's nothing. They imply that the Vibranium-based technology is unmatched to the point of nano brain surgery on Vision. And you want me to believe they don't have the cure or even much better treatment for cancer?

Not only that, both Valkyrie and Thor seem to have this vast networking with several other Gods, several realms, and several different species in far more advanced technology states than us. Think of Nova. Thor has Stormbreaker, which is basically space Uber. He can teleport to any part of the Universe in the blink of an eye. And you want me to believe there's no cure for cancer anywhere in the known Universe at this point?

The writer could forcefully patch this if he incorporated the whole Dark World's Aether, making her condition particularly unique because she had the Aether in her body. But again, they wasted too much time on jokes and not so much on the movie's stakes. Gorr didn't have much of an introduction. Jane's cancer didn't have enough development for anyone to care. Actually, they treat it like it's nothing. This movie has too little stake and too much flashiness.

And when I say that they wasted too much time on jokes. The goats. It was completely unnecessary and annoying, and they insisted on it for far too long. I hate the goats. And the costumes. Thor's new uniform feels more like a cheap Aliexpress cosplay than a warrior garment. And they used the whole Power Rangers transformation joke too much, again. Thor is basically a Power Ranger at this point.

We have two characters that were supposed to have tragic arcs, Jane and Gorr. But because there were far too many jokes all the time, their stories got diluted to the point that we don't care. The ending makes no sense. The whole "worthiness" thing means nothing at this point. Mjolnir and Stormbreaker were reduced to anime tsundere characters. Korg and Valkyrie didn't have to be here. The whole Korg narration works at first, but repeated too many times becomes very boring.

Again, visually the movie is stunning. Great visuals. Hemsworth is in his prime. Battle scenes, taken in isolation, were very well built. Too many great scenes are poorly mixed with too many jokes, and very sloppy editing kills the pace and the tragic storyline. I would go as far as to say that if a better editor took the realm and re-edited this movie without Taika in the room, we would have a movie that I could add 1 or 2 points more, bringing it to at least a respectable 6 out of 10. But the way this movie is right now, it's a 4, at most.

Seems like Taika can't be left unchecked. I would say that maybe it was the opposite, Disney demanding too much of him. But the parts that I feel are extra are exactly the Taika-like jokes. This is easily his most unbalanced work. It's a shame because the overall plot has a lot of potentials, and the production value is still very good, but the pieces were glued all wrong. That's my take. Not worth going to the theater to watch this. Wait for the Disney+ release.

    Thor Love and Blunder
Thor Love and Thunder is the fourth entry in the Thor franchise and it is a step down from the previous. I feel like Ragnarok did a better job at the comedy. I find comedy in Love and Thunder just didn't land properly. As well, I feel like Gorr the God Butcher was underutilized in the film. I feel like he wasn't used enough in the film and it doesn't make him feel like enough of a threat. He's the GOD BUTCHER and he doesn't seem to fit the role. I do find Christain Bale does a good job as always but it doesn't help the flawed script.

I find the CGI in Love and Thunder is a little more spotty than Quantumania. I'm more likely to pick out a worst CGI moment from this movie than Quantumania.

Out of the Thor films, my favorite ones are the first and Ragnarok. I find Love and Thunder is a little more watchable than the Dark World. It's definitely more memorable. I do find the post credits scenes in Love and Thunder is good enough setup for the future and would like to see the continuation. I hope that a possible Thor 5 does better than this one and possibly be on bar with Ragnarok. Taika Waititi seems to kinda overstayed his welcome as director, so probably best to get a new director in for Thor 5. I'm alright with him staying as Korg but not as director or writer.

    As I was saying...
Yeah, the decline in MCU "quality" continues! (Disney gotta be proud).

Just when you think couldn't get any worse, that writers/production must be deliberately degrading it; down it goes!

Avengers Civil War used a no excuse plot hole just because someone wanted to use that story theme... to use no logic, but simply to create a whole main story, nay, universe on buildings get destroyed during a fight with Avengers fighting alien invasion... sign an accord... some even believe aliens should not have been so hostile, so as to fight other Avengers members (what?) just so can have a civil war theme movie by irrationally get them to do it (what?)

Ah, then Universe degrades even more... Thor, with 2nd grade writing (guess so majority of audience will buy a ticket (okay. Never mind then. But, what?)

Heavy metal costume Thor wears, heavy metal noise playing, again in MCU movies (oh that's right. So majority of country will see it I guess). Supports the mentality does it, for the bong basement 20 something, no... not living in parents basement. Parent already in last mentality generation. (scratch that). So... the bong 15 old with 20 something in government hotel room... will see it.

Can't think will get even worse. Oh, wait... seen DC Aquaman 2? Like going from intellectual humor (e.g. Robin Williams) to trunk acts and bathroom jokes. But... easy to write and will get more people (oh, okay then). In this degraded level of consciousness place. Maybe... bring back drive-in movies, but have to accommodate the bro trucks, and good luck turning off engines and the 20 row banks of halogen head lights.

Can anyone trade passports with me so I can get to a better country and people? (just ask most of Europe, UK, Canada, Australia). Please?

Entertaining, but extremely silly and not much new to offer
I feel like they just made this to get another Thor title out and sell tickets. It really doesn't have much new to offer. The plot is rather childish and doesn't seem sophisticated at all. Not at all comparable to previous Thor movies. The third Thor movie was an amazing action comedy, and the first two had lots of surprises and interesting, original plotline.

I like how the story end
I like when Bad guy choose to save her daughter instead of killing the Gods. BUT there are some parts aren't very convincing. I feel they try to be funny. But it's just awkward.

I also have a question. Why did the bad guy can use the stormbreaker. Isn't the stormbreaker have her own mind?i mean she can be jealous about the hammer. Why cant she just turn off the rainbow?

    A little too much love
Love and Thunder is a glorious misfire, a tone-deaf amplification of the first movie dead set on delivering more of everything that made Ragnarok such a welcome change at the time. Most of the time it's a painfully unfunny screwball comedy where Thor's role as the village idiot is amped up to eleven, while a running joke involving screaming goats and Lady Thor's search for a suitable catchphrase make up the rest of the movie's many, many moments of levity. This is juxtaposed with serious moments involving terminal illness of a character the producers thought needed some sort of undercooked closure. The budget, which could eradicate hunger in a small eastern European country, is mostly wasted on achingly blinding CGI that gives the film the sheen of a Saturday morning cartoon. Most of the supporting cast is utterly wasted, including Russel Crowe's buffoonery as Zeus and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, who the writers couldn't find anything noteworthy to do but is in the move anyway. Christian Bale turns in a stellar performance as the movie's villain, and his backstory would've made for a more interesting movie than the one he's in. Taika Waititi is clearly having a blast but others should steer clear of this over-indulgent mess.

    A surprisingly dull short filler
This movie was labelled on HotStar as the greatest Thor movie so far!!! Really? Somebody had to grease palms there.

Come on guys this is Thor the regal and royal superhero. But in this movie everything is a joke.

Don't get me wrong the humour is what made me push this to a 4 rating. But I just felt that this movie is like a filler towards something.

The return of love interest Jane. Whom I had no clue why she broke up with him. Christian Bale hung up his Batman shoes for this?

In fact Bale's character was the only thing that added a level of seriousness that is needed in a superhero movie.

    Had such promise...
Fort is such a great villain played by such a great actor. It's unfortunate the story had to be absolutely ruined by such a trash director. Thor goes from a star redeemed in the Infinity Saga back to a comic relief in a movie filled with unnecessary and disgusting sex/orgy/masterbation jokes and poor writing and acting. I was excited to see Zeus too and they managed to turn him into a sex craved slob who appears no mightier than a welfare bum. Truly unfortunate that such great characters like Thor, Zeus, and Gorr could be ruined by such awful writing and directing. Taika Watiti should never be allowed to help with a Marvel movie again.

The king of worst marvel movies
Just the worst movie I've seen this decade. Trying to be funny this film becomes a joke of the joke and brings down Thors character with it, the guardians of the galaxy and any other character that is included in this film including the marvel franchise in a whole. Absolutely rubbish. Well done Christian Bale for giving this film a bit of quality though, but even he isn't able to save this. Every thing is treated as a joke. I loved Ragnarok, it was great even if that was pushing the limits of silliness at times. But Love and thunder is a film made for the age of 9 maximum. I miss the days of the original Thor and Antony Hopkins as Odin.

Sad to See Where MCU Has Fallen
Poor writing, worse directing and bad acting. If "Jane" could have any more wooden she would be a tree. The money paid could in no way make up for the script they had to read.

It appears to have gotten to the point they put out anything and wait on the cash to come rolling in. In this case they may have reached the end of the comic book heroes.

Bringing in Christian should have helped but even he couldn't save this story.

There have been way too many stories through the years to choose from to do this one so poorly.

It feels like their next step will be a purely slapstick comedy. This one was close to it.
