yamintheinbusiness - 18 June 2024 Most of it worked...... except for Rachel Zegler and her singing I went into this movie with zero expectations since most spinoffs and prequels don't usually work and I didn't expect this one to be an exception.
But to my surprise, I ended up enjoying it more than I initially expected. The characters, especially Snow, are interesting and flushed out enough to get my attention. Although I didn't particularly mind Lucy Gray, her accent and her singing made this serious young adult premise into a cheaper wannabe of a B-grade Disney movie. I know the singing was an element from the book that needs portraying, but my goodness, it wasn't done right at all.
Other than that, it was tolerable. It would've been perfect without certain elements.
ClaireMEldin - 12 June 2024 A Mix Of Musical and Film! When it came to watching this new addition to the hunger games franchise, i was thoroughly surprised with the mix of musical and film all clashed into one, it can take a surprise on your audience for when they break out into song. Another thing about this film, I think splitting it into different parts was convenient but at the same time, I think at the start of every part, it's very rushed into. You're not able to gather your thoughts up and opinion quickly enough to be able to take in what happened in each part and predict what happens. I think the pacing of this film was slightly rushed and I think there could have been some more consideration into it when it comes to the pacing of the entire film. I think scenes like the arena fight was very rushed and you couldn't take in everything at once, I think you weren't able to see a lot of action and then that took the element of tension and hanging on the edge of your seat away just like a couple of other scenes that were in this film.
Another thing about this film though, the dedication to the cinematography and the set designs were done brilliantly especially when it came to looking at the aesthetics and colour palette and how they could work together, I love how they looked for something to make everything look rustic and gives that whole destroyed and vulnerable look to it. I also love the cast and what went into finding the perfect people to play these characters, there was so much talent involved and gave an amazing performance during the whole of it even if it did come of a bit rushed throughout the entirety of the film.
I also love the dedicated on how much work went into the characters looks and their specific outfit to every single character, they all had something unique to bring to the plate and this whole film. They also had a unique backstory to their characters, each individual ones and it was fun to learn a bit about everyone and what they're all like. They had great development to their characters throughout especially when it comes to comparing this more new version and modern version to the rest of the hunger games films that were made ages ago.
scubadiverjames-586-249356 - 1 June 2024 So bad that it belittles the original books and movies I went into this expecting nothing and yet I was still massively disappointed.
The acting is shocking, the songs are straight out of a Disney film and worst of all, it mimics bits from the original films despite the fact it's a prequel and set years before them.
It's done that thing that has become commonplace recently where they've tried to humanize the villain and it's just totally unnecessary. Sometimes peoe can just be evil because they're evil. They've tried to make you feel sorry for Snow and that's just inane.
This saddest part is the fact that it undermines the original books and films.
