Silver Skates
1899, the Christmas-time St.Petersburg. Ice-covered rivers and canals of the capital seethe with festive activities. On the eve of the new century those who should not be destined to meet, come together. They are people from different worlds: Matvey, the son of a lamplighter, whose only treasure is his silver-plated skates; Alice is the daughter of a high-ranking official dreaming of science. Each of them has his own difficult life-story, but having accidentally met they rush forward together in pursuit of their dreams.

Romeo & Juliet On Skates and in Russia
High level, this is a typical love story between two young fluttering hearts from different social classes yet with a fresh modern approach as well as a period piece. This time the story takes place in Russia around New Years of 1900 and often on ice skates; hence the title. Much like on the Titanic, their romance is hindered by social status. Here the young man is the lower class chap and in need of money for his mother's surgery. He of course falls into the wrong crowd and starts thieving with them...on skates! A bunch of slick pickpocketing and diverting the attention of the target scenes commence. At the same time, the well to do young lady is feeling constrained by her life as she wants to make something of her life. So when their paths cross, intrigued is sparked. Will their romance survive their stations in life? This was an entertaining movie with awesome sets and settings, brisk pacing and an appropriate modern approach to this classic tale.
